    Name That Genre

So I had an idea for a new music game that might be a little more challenging for the music buffs here. I call it "Name That Genre", and it's pretty simple. Just name the genre of music from the last poster, then add an artist or group of your own for the next member to guess the genre...

Finally Building My Custom Turntable! **IT'S DONE!**

I'll just copy my posts from another site earlier today... "I've been playing around with vinyl rigs again for a while now. Some of you will remember that I was going to build a custom plinth for a Mitsubishi LT-30 a while back, but ended up just overlaying the plinth with Wenge. Well with...

How Many Posts Until I'm Smart?

It's become obvious lately that post count is directly related to intelligence, so I'd like to know the magic number. How many posts until a simpleton like me can be a brainiac?

    Yamaha PF-800 Turntable

Today I received a Yamaha PF-800 turntable that I bought on ebay recently. The table is in near mint condition, and it also came with a Grado G2 cartridge that's in very good condition. I opened up an NOS pressing of The Honey Drippers, featuring Robert Plant. There was some very hot...

    Got my new custom headband.

I received my new headband from Fatman711 yesterday. I sent him a cardboard template and asked him to make me a headband for my Chocolate Donuts. He did a fantastic job. The leather is a dead ringer for the leather on the L3000 pads. I've admired his Grado bands for a while now. If he ever...

New Turntable Project ... Reworking a moderately priced older table

Back in the 80's I purchased a Mitsubishi LT-30 linear tracking turntable. I believe I paid about $650.00 for it. I was very impressed with the quality of the unit at the time. Recently I found another LT-30 on ebay for a very good price. The unit has some chips in the faux veneered MDF base...

    Disassembling a Senn. 580 headband

I'm trying to disassemble the headband on my new HD-580 so that I can remove the Silver/Blue paint. Do I need to pull the foam pad out from the headband to access some screws, or do they come apart some other way?

Anyone built a balanced phono stage?

I just bought a TT that I plan on modding with a custom plinth and stand. Since TTs are a true balanced source I was wondering if anyone here has built a balanced phono stage? I'd like to secure one at a decent price (sub $700.00) if possible. With some guidance I can probably install the XLR...

    Another FedEx Rant!

So I'm waiting for a package that's supposed to be delivered today. I tracked it this morning, and it said "Out on truck for delivery". Great, I'm all psyched. Well at 5:30 pm there's still no delivery from FedEx, but that's not unheard of. I've had them deliver as late as 7:00 pm. Just to be...

I sincerely hope everyone has a great time tonight bringing in 2008. I would however like to ask that if you're going to be drinking please secure a designated driver, or call a cab. I know that a lot of us think we're fine to drive, but that's not only a bad idea, it can have devastating...

β22 Balanced Headphone Amp: A Comprehensive Review

I put my first audio system together in 1976 when I was 15 years old. I was introduced to an avid audiophile a few months before that, and I was hooked immediately. I can still remember how I felt when I heard his phone ring, only to discover that the ringing phone was actually coming from his...

    Any Paolo Nutini fans?

Another Head-Fier turned me on to his album "These Streets". I like it a lot. It reminds me a little of Five For Fighting, and a little of Jeff Buckley. What are your thoughts?

Los Lonely Boys & Willie Nelson Live = One Fantastic Show!

I had tickets for Willie Nelson last night. My Mother is a big Willie fan, so I got her a ticket too. The show started at 7:00 with a group I'd never heard of called Stoney Larue & the Arsenals. They were southern rock, and a good group of musicians. They had a good sound with lots of fiddle...

I have seen many of you talk about the group Massive Attack before, but I never got a good sense for what kind of music it was. Well I got a surprise package in the mail from my buddy philodox the other day with several new albums. They're all good, but he was afraid Massive Attack might be...

    PMs doin' freaky stuff!

So I thought I was getting a misreading on my PM box. It showed two unread messages, but none were there. So I went to clear out some of my old messages and when I deleted them the two new messages showed up. I read one, then went to read the other and it wasn't there, but it's still showing up...

Anyone using the Twisted Pear Joshua Tree?

I'm having a 4 channel β22 built, and it will be employing the Joshua Tree logarythmic stepped attenuator. I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with this little known stepper yet? I love the fact that the boards can be mounted at the back of the case for very short signal paths...

Anyone heard of the new album "Raising Sand"?

It's a collaberation featuring Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. If that doesn't peak your curiousity you may be dead. I have pre-ordered the album which is due to be released the middle of next month, and I can't wait to hear that particular pairing of voices. I'm a big fan of each of them in...
