I agree...Etymotics. However, etymotics do not produce a "rich" sound.

After reading all of the positive comments, I bought one of these. Just listened through them yesterday when they arrived. They sounded like crap! Perhaps I got bad copy, a bad set, or I need to do some serious burning in.

I'm really sorry to hear this. After all the laudatory comments that I had readI had decided to replace my Apple ipod  with the J3.  I don't see any of the current models replacing it...too bad!

Are  XEARS earphones made in Germany or China? I was thinking of purchasing one of their higher end products (XPA2 PRO, XSR330 PRO, MAJESTIC 700 PRO) but I'm a bit leery based on all of the problems that I have read about, reference their products....not what I normally associate with German...

OK, so how does the GR-06 fit Into this scheme of things? Someone in this thread suggested that the GR-04 PRO FLAGSHIP EDITION was higher up the food chain than the the GR-06, right below the GR-07...what a mess! Any ideas?

I hope that you get an answer to your question. I have the same concern. Both models are billed, along with the more expensive GR-07, as FLAGSHIP editions. Note...there are TWO GR-04 units....very confusing indeed!

Very nice review. I too have DB-02's so I appreciated your insightful comments. It would be interesting to see an article/review comparing a number of the IEM's sporting the Knowles TWFK drivers.  

Mkubota1, you are right...the ALO bands definitely LOOK sturdier!  I also went to ebay (Don't understand why I hadn't done that before) and bought 3 bands for $2.97 plus free shipping.  We'll see how they match up against the ALO.

There is a guy on ebay,  fred_fred_2004, selling very impressive looking diy altoid tin can-based cmoy's. Pictures of the internals show very clean and well-laid components. He uses a variety of opamps. His Audiophile 3-Channel and Ultimate model are especially impressive.  Has anyone bought one...
