some good piano music?
That's a pretty broad request, but... here are a few jazz albums that (1) feature piano, (2) sound great, and (3) are easy to appreciate for a beginner but are also great albums in their own right. Bill Evans, "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" or "Waltz for Debbie" (two parts of the same live... -
sufjan, devendra, sam, ward, ...what next?
Firstly, if you like Bonnie Prince Billie and the rest, then Smog should be high on your list. Some good suggestions already in this thread - I really like In The Reins and Roomsound. Here are some more suggestions: Grandaddy Songs Ohia Lambchop The Sea and Cake Cat Power Holly... -
Quick Minimax CD player question
Geist, You might want to read the replies to a thread I started a few days ago asking the same question about the Minimax and the HD650s: http://www5.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115344 The answer seemed to be yes, the Minimax can drive the HD650s with ease. Since the HD595s are...- riddley

Minimax CDP with 580/600/650s?
Does anyone out there have any experience listing to the Eastern Electric Minimax CDP headphone out with Sennheiser 580/600/650s? I'm interested in this player but I'm attached to my 650s and don't plan on getting rid of them any time soon. All the good reviews of the Minimax I've read focus...- riddley

Vivaldi Violin Sonatas - Recommndations
I've been listening to a set of the Vivaldi sonatas by a group called Cordaria. It's a very genteel, restrained and classical performance. I haven't heard any other versions but I would guess this would be the direct opposite of Manze. Personally I find the recording a bit boring although I... -

Other Music Like the Boredoms
Hi Rextrade Super Ae is one of my favourite albums. Great headphone listening too. Here are some ideas... There are a lot of Boredoms side projects or other Japanese bands with Boredoms members in them. A few to look out for are ooioo, omoide hatoba and rovo. Might be hard to buy, but you... -
recommend me music similar to modest mouse, the shins, the flaming lips, etc..
Califone. If you like Modest Mouse and Ugly Casanava, you should try to listen to Califone. They have a similar sound - Ugly Casanova and Califone have members in common. I recommend starting with Quicksand Cradlesnakes. If you like Califone, also check out Red Red Meat, which is an... -
Tube amp hum
I've recently got hold of a Cyber-20 tube headphone amp. I like it a lot, but one thing I've noticed is that on the "high" impedence setting the amp has a very faint hum. The volume of the hum doesn't change with the volume setting of the amp; it's just noticeable when the source is silent and...- riddley

Power cord plug question
But would having a adapter (European plug <-> Australian plug) in between the power plug and the wall socket negate the advantages of a better plug? -

Has anyone tried Consonance Cyber 20 by Opera Audio?
Yes, I've heard it - in fact I bought one last month. (I'm not suprised that the US distributors have run out - shows what the power of a positive review can do.) I like it a lot, and in fact I've been planning to post some impressions of it here, but the problem is I haven't heard any really...- riddley

Power cord plug question
I'm thinking of getting a power cable in the European Quail group buy, but because I'm in Australia I would need to use an adapter to make the plug fit our sockets. Does using an adapter have a negative effect on the power? Is it worth using an upgraded cable if the power has to run through...- riddley

Conditioning tubes???
Yep, wish I'd learned both those things a few weeks ago... starting out with a tube amp is quite a learning curve. I've got a cyber-20 amp with two EL84 power tubes, both of which give a ringing tone when tapped. Does that mean they are microphonic? When I'm using the amp, I can't hear any...- riddley

Ety Alternatives
I have eczema on the inside of my ears which is irritated very easily. Even using soft foam ear plugs is not good. Do you think that a custom ear mold would be less irritating than that? How far into the ear does it go?- riddley

Ety Alternatives
Joelk, I've thought about custom molds, but I'm in Australia and it seems that it's very expensive to get them made over here - especially when I'm not even sure if I'll be able to use them. Luukas - is the HD25 portable?- riddley

Ety Alternatives
Can anyone suggest the best non-canal headphones to replace my beloved Etys? I've had to give up canal-phones because my ear canals are overly sensitive to irritation. I've now got HD650s to use as my main phones, and I love them, but I need some portable phones to use on the bus. So I'm...- riddley

Tube Dampening a worthwhile tweak?
Timoteus, how can you tell whether the tubes in your system need damping or not? What sort of undesirable sound characteristics do excessive microphonics cause?- riddley
