Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I think they would work. I use Devore Nines (91 db at 8 ohms) with OG Aegir monoblocks in a 12 x 22 x 9.5’ room. Plenty of power. TBH I can probably get by with one in stereo but like the extra power. Adding this caveat… if the Triangles spend most of their time at 4 ohms, then that can...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks! I’ve had the DNA-1 for over 25 years. It’s a little noisy — old caps — but still makes music. Might send it to Steve McCormack some day for an upgrade. In the meantime, though, the Aegirs are remarkably good and these speakers don’t need that DNA-1 power.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Two Aegirs are better than one — at least to me. Ended up returning the Aegir 2 and getting another OG Aegir to run balanced as monoblocks. The speakers are liking the additional power.

This photo should come with a trigger warning. Not for discussion here but that speaker company has had a rough week.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I wasn’t trying to hit protection mode when I hit it with the Aegir 2. I was just listening a little louder than normal because I had the house to myself. Was kind of surprised actually. Then I switched to Aegir 1 and didn’t hit protection mode at the same volume, same song, same everything...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

No, it’s actually the Aegir 2 that’s tripping protection at lower volume than the Aegir 1. That’s what surprised me,

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Both the Aegir 2 and Aegir 1 are in the same room sitting out on a rack with nothing around them -- lots of air circulation -- and ambient temperature is around 67 degrees. I'm able to push the Aegir 1 harder than the Aegir 2, which is why I'm wondering about my Aegir 2. I expected it to go a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

You might be right and that's much louder than I normally listen to anyway. I was more surprised that it's going into protection mode at volumes that are lower than my Aegir 1. I just didn't expect that and want to make sure there's not something wrong with my Aegir 2.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

No, its' the same RCA cables into the Aegir 2 as I use into the Aegir 1. Both are RCA only if running stereo, which is how I use each one.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks! Me too! It really is a very good amp and the truth is that it's not going into protection mode at my normal listening levels. I just want to make sure there isn't something wrong with it. I wouldn't expect it to go into protection mode at lower volume than my Aegir 1, which is...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've had the Aegir 2 for about 3 weeks now. I really (!) like this amp but it's going into protection mode -- even at volumes slightly lower than when I'm listening to my original Aegir. That kind of surprised me. I've reached out to customer service to see if that's expected or maybe my...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

My Aegir 2 arrived last Friday. Unboxed it, had a first listening session, pushed it hard (and put it into protection mode) and then lowered the volume back down to listen at normal levels. Straight out of the box, I liked it. Have listened to it for the past 3 nights and have really enjoyed...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Yeah, I probably don’t need any more power than the OG Aegir has to overwhelm my listening room. That said, I think having a little more power might get a little more from the speakers. We’ll see. I also just trust Jason when he says he’s created a better sounding Aegir.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Order has been placed. I bought a used Aegir about a month ago to pair with my Freya + and Devore Nines speakers. Have really enjoyed it but know that I could use a little more power. If the Aegir 2 doesn’t do it, then my next step will be to just buy one more Aegir or Aegir 2. I’m...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Paper manuals in 2024? Seems wasteful. We can’t buy Schiit products without ordering them online — customers aren’t faxing or mailing in orders. We’re using phones, tablets and computers to buy our Schiit. We can handle going online to view the manual. Give yourself (and your team) a break...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Epic post, Jason. Thanks for the detailed explanation of the challenges of manufacturing Schiit gear. And manufacturing just about anything. Everything seems easy to the people that aren’t doing that thing — but reality is always more complex. Thanks, too, for the add’l detail on Aegir 2...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Does anyone know the timing of the Schiit Aegir 2 launch? Looking forward to a class A (like) amp with a little more power to pair with my Freya+.

Best type of RCA splitter to use??

Giving this a bump, as I'm looking for the same answer.  Want to split the signal coming out of Peachtree DacIt and send it to Bottlehead Crack headphone amp and Acurus preamp (for my speakers).    Right now I'm using tape output through Acurus but am definitely getting noise added in through...

    Making a DACing decision :)

Peachtree DacIt may be a little pricey for your budget but is an excellent DAC. Good reviews in Stereophile and Computer Audiophile. I bought mine a few months ago and am enjoying it. Another DAC worth looking at is the Rega or the Schiit Bifrost. Happy hunting!

Best amp for hd 650 under $500

Here are my rcommendations from my own research. Tubes: Bottlehead Crack (DIY for $279) -- perfect for HD650 and what I use for mine Little Dot 3 or 4 Schiit Valhalla (more of a hybrid but well reviewed and well matched to 650s) Solid state: Schiit Asgard -- for $249 and 15 day audition...

HD650: Crack, Little Dot MKIII, or.....

Was doing the same search and agree with others that you should add Schiit Valhalla (or Asgard or Lyr) to the list. My search just ended with a used Crack with Speedball that I just picked up from another member. Awesome combo with HD650s. Am very happy. I was also looking at the Lyr and Woo WA6.

Bottlehead Crack Speedball Upgrade Worth It?

Just bought a Crack with Speedball from a fellow head-fi-er and spent 3 hours with my HD-650s glued to my head. Amazing pairing. Prior to this I was using a pretty decent Yamaha receiver, which i thought drove them pretty well. I was also able to spend some time listening to Woo WA-3 and WA-6...

Woo Audio is at New York Audio & AV Show '12!

I was able to get to the show on Friday and made it a point to get over to the Woo room.  Amazing.   I had never had the pleasure of listening to Woo amps or to Audeze headphones.  Was able to spend time with LCD-2 and LCD-3, as well as HD650s and try a whole bunch of Woo amps.   I was even able...

Any other amps with preamp outs that I should be looking at? Can't just be the Lyrr. Also, any thoughts on y-splitters? Thanks.
