    The Stax Thread III

I'm at my wits end with the SR-007A; despite my ears being quite small my left ear touches the driver and the headphone are too uncomfortable for regular use. Does anyone know of a method to make the earpads deeper so that my left ear doesn't touch the inner part of the SR-007A? The replacement...

My trust USB B cable lacks side-fumbling characteristics.

Just my opinion, but I'd like to hear my HD800S or even SR-007A with a super-duper cable which features a bass de-flabifier, spun-silver plankton generator and an organic resolution de-encabulator.

I'm not sure if a hyper-expensive USB cable made to industry specifications can improve signal quality to any measurable degree. A comparison can be made with an HDMI cable; no cable exists which can measurably improve signal quality and in the case of HDMI cables, improve acting. Perhaps using...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I'm deeply sceptical about expensive amplifiers which feature "plankton generators" and bass "tighteners". I used to own an Earmax Pro which added a tiny amount of warmth at the expense of treble. I replaced it with a Lehmann Linear Black Cube which is cheaper to run and does not add sibilance...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Hi Donlin, I can't find the reference to the HDVA 600 converting single ended input to balanced. Before posting the message here I called Sennheiser and they suggested just using adaptors on the RCA cable as the input has to be manually selected at the front, but it's not clear if I can just...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Thanks, but my question is whether my 2Qute which only outputs in RCA would enable the HDVA 600 to output via the XLR socket. Maybe RCA cables terminating in XLR male plugs would work?

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I agree about Schiit stuff. I've got a NJC Audio Reference II which provides a lot of gain but I can't help wondering if a balanced amplifier work better (provide more bass). I'm thinking of either a Lake People RS 08 (very expensive for me), CMA600i (issues about clicking sounds) or a HDVA 600...

    New Questyle CMA400i

Hi all, I have a 2Qute and NJC Reference II powering my HD800S. I’m thinking of replacing the DAC and amplifier with a CMA400i for convenience but can’t help wondering if the DAC section of the CMA400i will be a noticeable come down from the 2Qute. Reports of channel imbalance are a concern...

Thanks, the HDVA600 looks good but I’m not sure if the balanced output would work with the 2Qute which is RCA output only. I’m hoping the HDVA600 has a switchable voltage input like the RS 08.

Hi, I have an HD800S with an NJC Reference II amplifier and the source is a Chord 2Qute. The Reference II has a very neutral frequency response so doesn't particularly help bass. My Stax SR-007A (amplified by an SRM-300) has a warmer sound signature, albeit without the spacious soundstage of...

    The Stax Thread III

I've recently purchased a used SRM-300 with an SR-404 Signature. I also have an SRM-727II and SR-007A which has a quite a warm signature, with a reasonably wide soundstage (not as wide open as my HD800S) but on certain tracks by Jarvis Cocker and Jamiroquai (Tidal Hi-Fi with PC and Schiit...

Thanks, that's a great idea. I'll try to find some adaptors unless you have any recommendations :)

    The Stax Thread III

The SRM-300 has two sets of cables snaking out the back so it would need to be a big acrylic dust cover.

    The Stax Thread III

Hi, I've just purchased a used SRM-300 and SR-404 Signature as a bedside system. The SRM-300 seemed appealing because the energiser is vertically mounted and acts as the stand for the SR-404. However, it's not possible to place the dust cover over the headphone and energiser with the phono...

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

I don't understand about switching power supplies. There are 6 pigs at the same trough so things may get messy.    Would a TeraDak DC-30W linear power supply as advertised on eBay be worth trying? An MCRU power supply is too expensive for me.

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

The 2Qute is plugged into a multi-point mains adapter with 5 other devices, but I thought that this DAC, unlike its predecessor, isn't affected by power issues. I'm in the UK and power supply is generally reliable.    The RCA cable is supposed to be good quality but it's worth trying another.

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

I don't use vinyl, only CDs or other computer music. I've eliminated the amplifier and headphones as the problem occurs with both my Stax and Sennheiser equipment.

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

If it's USB, is it worth sending to Chord for investigation? The crackling is faint, like light dust on a record but not severe pops. The volume is set quite loud as I've lost some hearing on the left side so crackling is audible at the start of a track.    Is there a way of adding optical...

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

Thanks for the reply. The issue is random and minutes can go by without any crackle. I'll try again with either YouTube or Tidal. When crackling occurs it's never in the same place.   I'll also try my iPhone connected via CCK and USB, but my iPhone 7 doesn't work with my Starting Point Systems...

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

Please can anyone advise? I have a 2Qute connected to my PC and randomly hear crackling sounds like a dusty vinyl record, especially when changing tracks in Tidal Hi-Fi. This also happens when listening to study music on YouTube. The crackling sounds occur when the 2Qute is connected to either...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I'm finding my HD650 with Lake People G100 Final Edition and Chord 2Qute connected to my PC via USB is giving my Stax SR-007 MkII and SRM-727II a run for their money. The only truly noticeable difference is that the Stax has a wider soundstage and dynamic range. Other than that since properly...

    Most overrated headphones?

All Lambda Stax except for the L500. Over time the headband will snap and the foam grill will rot. I won't mention lack of bass, sibilance and endless discussions about driver matching.
