Alternative UK-based custom headphone cable maker?
Oidio Sound is another UK-based option. -
ZMF Verite Closed-New Closed Back ZMF Flagship.
I find I punch up the volume on my Mojo (v1) to try to help the VCs "sound better" - to get more bass, to try to bring some clarity to confusion in the mids, etc. - but likely all due to the Mojo's amp/output just not really matching up with the VCs well. On the other amps (with a lot more...- mikem1062

I've used a Mojo (original), Burson Conductor 3 Ref, and Pendant SE. The VCs sound amazing through the Pendant; great through the Burson C3R, and . . . not great through the Mojo. If the music is simple, uncluttered / not complex - the Mojo can sound OK. Anything more intense or complex and (for...- mikem1062

Being based in the UK it may be easier to pick up something like the Burson Conductor 3 Reference (or 3X Reference - balanced), either used or ex-demo. HiFiHeadphones has an ex-demo 3XR at the moment, for example. It's solid state not tube though.- mikem1062

UK import and VAT question
Can vary based on the vendor (for instance, Amazon.eu or an Ebay vendor vs others) and the cost. If under £135 the vendor may be required to collect VAT (to include VAT in the price you pay).- mikem1062

How much (if any) can PC motherboards affect external DACs?
So you're saying that all digital sources/streamers will sound the same? After all, isn't it the same digital file or stream? Or maybe there's more than just the digital data making it's way to the DAC?- mikem1062

Schiit Modius discussion - $199 balanced AK4493 DAC
I've really struggled with USB cables - QED and Supra USB cables didn't work (though they work fine with a Mojo), and I dug through a pile of unknown brand cables on hand - and found only a single cable that worked (I didn't happen to try the Schiit cable that was included - I was already using...- mikem1062

Flux Lab Acoustics FA-10, FA-10 Pro, FA-12, FCN-10 & FA-12s Amplifiers - Summit-Fi for the People?: Reviews, Impressions & Discussion
I'm using a USBridge Signature and have a USB stick plugged into one of the two "Wifi/BT" USB ports on the front. I can play files from the USB stick using either of the two OS's I've tried (Volumio & Moode). Not sure if an unpowered USB drive would work - it might draw too much power, but a USB...- mikem1062

JM1979 - I appreciate the input. Where I'm based (the UK) the Echo is roughly £500, while the A20 would be £311 and the Asgard 3 a bit less than that. For a short-term solution I'd like to be closer to £300. It would be fun to hear an Echo though - I was reading feedback on those a couple of...- mikem1062

Finally saved up enough, and am finally the proud owner of a camphor burl VC. Next target: a Pendant amp and Bifrost 2 or similar DAC. I might be getting ahead of myself though – at the moment I’ve only got a Mojo and some low-end DAPs to drive my VCs (Cayin N3 and Fiio M6). Neither the Mojo...- mikem1062

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Bluetooth interference? I'm using my Cayin N3 at the gym, paired with Betron BR74 earphones via Bluetooth. No problems with this combo at home. But at the gym I'm often getting cutouts/dropouts, and the music skipping around a bit (catching up in a buffer or cache?). Sometimes the earphones...- mikem1062

FiiO F9, F9Pro-Detachable MMCX connector,Hi-Res Audio Certified,2.5mm TRRS/3.5mm audio cable
Could use some input on a purchase decision. Considering the Fiio F9, Fiio F9 Pro, and MEE Audio Pinnacle P1. Pricing in the UK puts these all within about £30 of each other. Will largely be using a Cayin N3 as a source, and listening to hard rock, pop, vocals, and some strings/classical. Should...- mikem1062
