Any Flamin' Groovies fans out there?

I ran a search in the music forums, and couldn't find any threads. I've recently discovered this band that stretched from the mid-60's to the late 70's. They ran the range from San Francisco scene/garage rock/British invasion through Stones-inspired R n' B, through proto-punk and then reinvented...

Listmania: Five Favorite All-Time Network Sitcoms 1950-1999

Mine, in order: 1. Seinfeld 2. The Odd Couple 3. Bob Newhart Show (1970's version) 4. Mary Tyler Moore Show 5. MASH My daughter will shoot me for not listing Friends -- so I'll give it an honorable mention. I suppose The Honeymooners was also a runner-up.

    LOST Returns (Spoiler alert)

Well, I'm glad it's back -- now the show has to "put up or shut up". In other words, it has to deliver and maybe answer more questions than it poses (especially given the incredible hype the network has created). I thought Wednesday's episode was B+, and it was cool to get some back-story on...

The 2006 Good Times, Bad Times Thread

I had some major ups and down this year, call it Karma or breaking even or YIn/Yang if you will. I thought I would start a thread where you list the best thing that happened to you this year and the worst. Hopefully, 2007 will be more even-keeled. Worst: Wife walked out on me (after she...

Not Another Lost Thread! (spoiler alert)

Although I thought tonight's episode was kind of slow-moving, I think it was starting to set the scene for the next few episodes. Also, I appreciated the Sawyer back-story line. I am bothered by the fact that the survivors have neve spotted the twin island -- I mean they have been walking all...

    Sebadoh III Re-Issue

Sebadoh III was just re-issued -- with a full disc of bonus tracks -- in all it's lo-fi glory. Although I still will reach for Pavement first, Sebadoh really does compliment them as masters of the early/mid 90's indie scene. IMO, of course.

    NY Mets Appreciation Thread

OK, I am totally superstitious (as many MLB fans are) so I am starting this thread only because I have had so much fun this season with the Mets. My ten-year-old son and I have had major father-son bonding this season, which only adds to the sweetness of it all. I was only 6 for the 1969...

"Rather Ripped" is Rather Good (Thank you, Sonic Youth)

Just to follow-up on my own thread, went on my lunch hour to pick up the new SY CD. Actually, they were playing it in the store (I always like when that happens -- just in case it sucks or something). Liked it very much on full listen. Starts out strong and punchy (very tight). There are...

Sonic Youth releases new album today...

..."Rather Ripped" I hope to buy it real soon. Critics at allmusic and pitchfork gave it B+-type ratings. I'll see what I think for myself.

    LOST Yet Again (Spoiler Alert)

OK, I liked the episode last night. I think this sesason has finally hit its stride. Eko is always fun to watch. I have a big question. I always mute the commercials. Towards the end of the show, was there a "fake" commerical, that then listed a strange website? Did anyone see this?

LOST All Over Again (Spoiler Alert)

After a bit of a "slump", I thought tonight's episode brought some excitement back to the show. Fairly freaky how the connection between the Others and the Dharma initiative is being sketched out for us. Any thoughts on this?

    Get LOST Again (spoiler alert)

Excellent episode tonight, I thought. Kept you guessing the whole way through. Also, it shattered that sense of trust/comraderie (?sp) that had been building over most of this season. Once again, it is every man/woman for themselves.........

Question for Finland Head-Fiers Re Conan O'Brien

Conan has been running a gag on Late Night for several months now about how he looks very much like Finland's President. He even got involved in her re-election campaign. It made the news around here. I was just wondering what the take is on it over there.

Anyone Heard the Miles Davis Cellar Door Sessions (1970)?

LIke the title says, has anyone heard Miles' Cellar Door Sessions 1970? Huge 6-CD set of apparently never-released live stuff, recorded in the club? Different line-ups on different nights, with John McLaughlin on the last two discs. AMG raves about it...

Re-discovering Sebadoh and Pavement (for the third or fourth time)

I first got into these bands (maybe arounr 1999 or 2000)when they had already broken up. I'm only saying that because I feel like I got cheated out of extra years of enjoying them. Anyway, every six or none months I come back to them, and just get myself back into that lazy/slacker/hooky...

    LOST Again (Spoiler Alert)

So, pretty intense episode tonight , huh? Even though "Zeke" implied that the Others outnumbered the survivors, I'm not so sure that's the case. I think he was just bluffing. Also, maybe about 12 survivors are prisoners of the Others anyway, and they could rebel. I like Jack's idea about...

    Funny Headphone Comment

This morrning I was in my elevator with a woman (in her fifties?). I had my Beyer 250-250's in my hand (but my ipod/amp was inside my backpack). She looked at the cans, and said, "so year earmuffs have radios inside of them -- that's nice." I politely told her that they were headphones, but...

How is the Red Wine iMod Different from Sik/PocketDock?

I just saw the Red Wine Audio iMod referenced in another thread, and I read a little about it. Can someone tell me (in a nutshell) how it would be functionally different than using the dock and connecting a Sik Ram Din or PocketDock or TurboDock to make it a line-out? It looks like it...

    The Best of the Shoegazers

The album Souvlaki by Slowdive came up in another thread as possibly the best shoegazer album. I disagree. I would put it fourth behind the following: Nowhere (Ride), Perfect Prescription (Spacemen 3), and Loveless (MBV). While Nowhere loses points for being unven, when it is good, it is just...

LOST Thread Revisited (spoiler alert, of course)

Didn't get around to posting my weekly LOST thread last Wednesday, so here it is. I thought the episode was fresh and creative, with that great twist on who the infiltrator was. So now I'm thinking that the Others were a military or paramilitary expedition (the Army knife) against the...

Walk The Line -- What did people think?

I saw the flick last night, and enjoyed it. I thought Phoenix and Witherspoon both did convincing jobs. I really didn't know much about Cash's biography, so I was going in fresh. Any Cash-heads feel the movie didn't do him justice?

    What's Up with the "Slow-Posters"?

I realize that everybody has their own posting style and speed. Some of us are crazy and post all the time (and never sleep, it seems). Others take their time and only chime in here and there. But I just don't get how people could be members here with join dates of two or three years ago, and...
