AKG 701 or Beyer DT 990? Need some advice
I'v never heard the 990s, but I owned the older 880s, k701s, annd k601s all at the same time. I preferred both AKGs to the 880s which sounded a bit synthesized or artificial compared to the natural sound of the AKGs. The 701 is somewhat similar to the 601, but wins hands down in instrument...- nm2285

Isolating IEM under $100
I used to own the ety ER-6 and liked them, but found them a bit bright. Maybe I'll have to try the 6i to see if it's the improvement people say it is. What about the altec lansing inmotion line? Also, no one has mentioned the super.fi 3...any opinions on these?- nm2285

Isolating IEM under $100
I'm looking for an IEM to use in situations that I need a bit of isolation (eg mowing the lawn, airplanes...). I have owned the Ety ER-4P and thought it a bit harsh in the treble, but with a little EQing, very nice. I love my AKG K701s and my K81DJs are also quite nice with the bass toned down a...- nm2285

Dorm room cans
K81DJ vote here. It'll have the bass of your senns without the dark sound. In my opinion, a much more natural overall presentation.- nm2285

Neutral, uncolored headphone?
Another vote for the K701. The K601 is probably actually more neutral, but the resolution and instrument separation from the K701 makes it more than worthwhile. Either one is a good pick.- nm2285

Which low cost headphones should I buy?
I've tried/owned just about every can listed in this thread and my fav has been the k81dj. they recently replaced my mdr-v6 as my travel can. my next fav would be the dt231, however, they're very very mellow. Maybe Grado after that.- nm2285

Share your K701 EQ!
There's a small hump around 800hz that i take out when i'm able, however, the k701s are the first of many headphones i've tried that i dont have to EQ to truly enjoy.- nm2285

K701 v K340
Well I've found my one love in the K701. However, I've always wanted to try the K340. Has anyone heard both? Does anyone who has prefer the 340 to the 701? Nick- nm2285

K601 or K701
I owned both and ended up with the K701s. They have a similar sound signature (althought the 701s have a small hump in the 800hz region), however, the 701s dominate in soundstage, imagining, and instrument separation. They also have a small, but significant edge in detail and resolution...- nm2285

Best soundstage headphones
While the dt880s have a wide soundstage, they dont have the same level of instrument separation as AKGs. The K501 is nice, the K601 is better. You can get it $219 shipped from headfi sponsers.- nm2285

Substitute for the Sony MDR-V6
So I've narrowed my options to: AKG K81DJ Beyerdynamic DT231 Sennheiser EH250 Sennheiser HD280 Sennhesier HD25-SP Beyerdynamic DT250-80 maybe I owned the AKG k271 at one point and enjoyed it, but it's not all that portable. What do you all think? Among these choices, which best fits...- nm2285

Ety ER-4P v Shure E4...need your experiences!
I'm thinking about changing from the ety er-4p to the shure e4. I need to know which you all think fits my preferences better (since I can't try out the e4 first). In order of preference in sound signature (not sound quality), i've owned: Fav --> less preferred AKG K701, AKG K501, Beyer...- nm2285

Substitute for the Sony MDR-V6
I need a closed and portable (preferably one that folds somehow) headphone for my trip to Italy this summer. I dont really have any problems with the Sony's other than sound - not my preference. I own Ety ER-4P so canalphones aren't a consideration. To give an idea of my sound signature...- nm2285

Sony MDR-V6 any good?
I use them when I need a closed can, however I have them heavily equalized. When equalized, I like them quite a bit for the price. When not, well then not so much.- nm2285

Hiss from EQ
I'm using a Behringer DSP1124 and am encountering a hiss which is easily audible with no music playing and also easily audible in quiet to medium passages or music/movie. I have it hooked up to my NAD C370 - pre-outs of the NAD to the EQ and EQ to the Main-in of the NAD. I'm using an RCA to 1/4"...- nm2285

Which is more important, headphone or source?
HEADPHONES make the greatest difference, without question. Now, if you're using your source as your amp as well...then you certainly may not get the full potential out of the headphones without a better amp. However, electronics can never make as significant a difference in sound as a...- nm2285

CD changers
I believe I read your post on audioreview.com for the 685! It was definately helpful in my decision making because the two units I was considering were the yamaha and the marantz. How does the yamaha compare directly to the marantz? I've read the marantz is a bit noisy (the changer mechanism)...- nm2285

CD changers
Anyone had any experience with the Yamaha CDC-585? I picked that because 1) price 2) good reviews and 3) quiet (unusual for a changer). I haven't hooked it up yet, cause my system is disembelled for the next few days. I'll be using the analog outputs and was hoping someone could comment on the...- nm2285
