Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Product suggestion:   Pre-amp or integrated amp with analog bass management and Home Theater pass-through.   Not a lot to choose from out there right now - three offerings from Parasound (P7, P5, Halo Integrated) and ...?

New Oppo BDP-103 & 105 previewed at Cedia

maybe i missed it but nobody in this thread seems excited about the fact that this new Oppo can be used as a preamp.   I guess in the context of headphones this might be expected but I'm looking forward to getting rid of my older AV Receiver and getting a bdp-105 - there's an HDMI IN slot on...

    Denon DCP-100 question

I'm doing some spring cleaning and I have an old DCP-100 that I *found* in my stuff. It was a High School graduation present - makes me feel very old I seem to remember it working fine last time I used it years ago but I plug it in now and nothing - no life. I checked the wall-wart...

What cans are in the movie "Snow Cake" ?

This is really quite a good movie, though I don't think it got wide distribution. At one point Alan Rickman's character is wearing these huge chrome cans and I have no idea what brand / model they are. Anyone here know?

Amy Winehouse, Back to Black. Is it supposed to sound like crap?

After one listen, I am afraid to say my $15 was wasted - the LP is just as bad as the CD. But it does have "Addicted" on it - a good song. What were the sound engineers thinking? I have to think that it must have been designed that way, cause nobody in the profession would have...

Does Amy Winehouse get on your nerves?

I wonder how many of you who said "sounds like fingernails down a chalkboard" are actually saying that literally? Really, her album is one of the worst engineered albums I have ever heard, but i think she has a great voice. What were her sound engineers thinking? Hurts my ears to listen...

Amy Winehouse, Back to Black. Is it supposed to sound like crap?

I did read somewhere recently that the British LP was *much, much* better - here's hoping that there's some truth in that. I can only listen to the U.S. CD it in my car...

Amy Winehouse, Back to Black. Is it supposed to sound like crap?

So were you Brits in this thread confirming that your domestic CD release of Back to Black is terrible as well? I have ordered the UK LP and hope that it's better (plus, it has 'Addicted' on it where the US CD release does not...).

    Stello DP200 vs. Lavry DA10

...I read this thread AFTER I posted my DP200 for sale here - honest! (if it was the other way around I probably would have asked more for it

balanced cable for apogee minidac (balanced xlr)-->>Senn hd580

I have some old cables around that I would like to hack up and try to frankenstein myself a balanced cable for my hd580s to connect to the balanced xlr outputs on my apogee minidac. Does anyone have a schematic of what that would look like?

    Philips 963SA w/ Benchmark DAC1

What is the best way to feed the DAC1? My options are: PCM Output - [48KHz, 96KHz] Upsampling - ["OFF","96 KHz(24-bit)","192 KHz(24-bit)"] Or are these all settings that would only effect the Philips' internal DAC...? Thanks. (using coax out w/ Stereovox HDXV cable)

    Philips 963sa troubles

no, I only have a 2-channel amp. I have really tried everything - used three different amps, both audio out and multichannel-front channel out, DVDs, CD, SACD...the only thing I haven't tried is the digital outs (I bet they work) - I don't have a DAC to plug them into...

    Philips 963sa troubles

My 963sa started to get very *fussy* about which DVDs it wanted to play. It got worse and worse until it would not play them more often than it would. I took it to the local Philips service place, and they replaced it. I was very happy about that, as I am in Canada and bought it from a US...

What's the best MP3 player for ~$125 with these features

The iriver ifp-390t looks realy good. What does it offer over the ifp-190t ? On the web site, the only thing I can see is *realtime mp3 encoding*...whatever that is. No USB2 and no direct plug (usb cable needed) but that's pretty minor. Now where can I buy these in Canada? thanks for your...

What's the best MP3 player for ~$125 with these features

Flash player. Sound quality the most important factor. 128 - 256 MB. USB v2.0 would be great, but v1.1 ok. Headphones will be replaced so not important. The thumb-drive type connectors are nice, so a cable isn't needed. I would like to be able to drag and drop any file to the...

FWIW: Brickwall a worthwile upgrade for me.

I've lived in old houses recently (1931 and now 1912) and the electrical has been less then perfect. I had all sorts of power related issues that made their way to my ears. I ordered a Brickwall not really thinking it would make a big difference, but it really has. I am very impressed. Worth...
