Review by 'plonkersaurus' on item 'Audio Technica W5000'

I've been using these headphones for 9 years, powered by an AMB m3. I've owned a lot of headphones over the years but these put an end to my GAS, my only moment of weakness was buying some Beyerdynamic T5's but they were quickly returned. My music taste is mainly acoustic music with some pop...

    Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Discussion Thread

Any W5000 owners have MSR7's? How do they compare? I'm interested because apparently my W5000's leak a bit too much in the office.

    Audio Technica ATH-W5000 headphones

I usually use them with an MMM but right now with an objective2 as I'm at my family home. The source right now is an Audioengine D3 or an iPhone 6s.   Ok maybe I don't mean veiled or not clear, it might warmth, there isn't quite the sparkle the T5p's have.   In terms of resolution though...

    Audio Technica ATH-W5000 headphones

So, I've had my W5000's for something like 6 years. Sounds like time for a change right? So I bought some Beyerdynamic T5p's because based on everything I read, they were THE closed head phones to have (bear in mind I own W5000's so I'm not a bass head at all). Nothing sounds magical on the T5p...

    Comparing frequency response graphs...

It looks like it is "correctly" normalized at 1000hz 0db. I don't know how you can compare headphones like that because you don't listen to headphones by picking the volume at 1000hz...

    Comparing frequency response graphs...

I'm a long time owner of some AT W5000's and noticed a bit of a bug bear with the headroom frequency response graphs and was wondering if anyone noticed the same thing or could answer why. The comparison charts seem to all be centred around 0db at 1000hz.  ...

AKG Differences in Product Range (whatdoichooose?)

the differences between the studio, studio mkII and HD are the studio have a detachable cable (comes with straight and coiled) and pleather pads, the mkII has updated colour slightly and also includes velour pads and the HD is the consumer version with no detachable cable and velour pads and a...

I love the sound, but comfort is total crap

all of my velour ear padded headphones make me itchy, although I think wearing the AKG 271's a lot has made me get used to it. The lamb skin leather on the W5000's is nice but I'm a huge fan of the fabric ones they used for the AKG k501's

    K271 MKII First Impressions

You could buy them and then sell which ever one you didnt like? They have quite different signatures, the AKG's being much more laid back. However I think you need a really good amp to really open up their soundstage, the Fiio E5 probably will be enough to power them loud enough but won't...

Worst headphones you've ever heard? / Low-fi experiences?

The ipod earphones that came with my ipod touch werent actually that bad, they were a bit tinny but quite detailed, I was quite surprised, much better than previous generations.

    Beginner looking for headphones

I play guitar myself and I would go with open. It's not that closed are bad its just I prefer being able to hear myself play (as in pick noise) as well as the sound out of the amplifier, its just more natural and more comfortable. That said if you were looking to just hear what comes out of the...

Looking for a pair of cheap and comfortable headphones

Oh HD201's were pretty comfortable too, and surprisingly good sounding for the money, the cable is long, it comes with an adaptor. They aren't the best sounding but they are cheap and I didn't dislike them, I gave my GF mine and she likes them Otherwise get her some denon D1001's...

Looking for a pair of cheap and comfortable headphones

Maybe sennheiser PX100's? I remember them being comfortable, cheap and very nice sounding for the money (but I don't know how much they are in NZ). Otherwise there is the JVC FOTM the RX700's. One thing you might have to take into consideration is the length of the cable as it might need to...

Wich one for Ipod touch without portable amp?

If you want bassy, comfortable, portable headphones that don't look silly when wearing thenh I would go for the D1001 or ATH-ES7. I don't like either of them as they have too much bass for me but apart from that they are both nice, very easy to drive and portable. The difference between the 2 is...

    K271 MKII First Impressions

I have the K271 MKII's and comparing the output of my mp3 player to a CMOY there isn't a lot of difference, but, with a Graham Slee Solo the headphones are completely different, their soundstage opens up a lot and they sound a lot clearer and more airy. They difference is night and day in my...

Help me choose my amp upgrade path :D

So I think I will get an M3, when upgrade time comes what would be next on the list? I might need two amps anyway one for work and one for home.

Help me choose my amp upgrade path :D

Thanks all for clicking. I currently have fairly good headphones but no good amps (my sources are in a arguably better state). I would like for you all to help me figure out an upgrade path to the top with amps, I'll give you an idea of what I've been looking at and you can change my mind and...

Need amp for w5000's, how far will the amp in the Beresford tc-7520 take me?
