Girlfriend-Fi: <$75 closed cans; <$60 IEMs?

Girlfriend-Fi: <$75 closed cans; <$60 IEMs?
After me bothering her for some time for being content with her stuck iBuds, my girlfriend has now (through her own free will) decided to upgrade. She wants closed cans and IEMs. Music taste is everywhere, price requirements sorta flexible. For the cans, pretty much in order of importance...- s3r

Change in HD-280? (pics)
Around June of last year my HD-280 headband broke after about a year and a half of faithful service. I had them replaced under warranty. But... my newer set has never sounded quite the same as my last set. They sounded ... drier. After I blue tak modded them, a friend of mine (who got his a...- s3r

What chip is the X-Fi XtremeGamer using?
The XtremeGamer and the XtremeMusic are practically identical. The difference are in the extra connections: Gamer has a standard connector for computer cases with front headphone/mic jacks, while Music doesn't. Music has connections for the X-Fi breakout box which can be bought separately, but...- s3r

which music do you use to test headphones?
When I was blue-tak modding my HD280s and was looking for changes in bass/impact, I used a lot of Coheed and Cambria tracks from "Good Apollo, I'm a Burning Star." "The Suffering" especially is a good bass/impact test track.- s3r

My HD280 is falling apart... what next?
I opened up the return authorization today, and I reprinted the invoice from the online vendor I ordered them from (newegg.com). I'll also be shipping them back in their original packaging, and I will be taking the blue-tak out... better safe than sorry. I appreciate all the input, guys...- s3r

My HD280 is falling apart... what next?
Ah! My wallet may yet be saved! I'll definitely check into the warranty repair, and the DT770/80 has gone back to the top of my list of cans to check out in the future. I may upgrade even if I get my HD280s fixed... we'll see. Thanks, guys, and more recommendations are still welcome!- s3r

My HD280 is falling apart... what next?
Thanks! I was really hoping to get some opinions from people with experience on the cans at hand. I've heard people have been getting the old-model DT770 80ohm for ~$140-150 from guitarinsider on eBay (puts them up for buy-it-now $200, but has a Make An Offer button through which people are...- s3r

My HD280 is falling apart... what next?
I'd read about it but never would've believed the complaints of the HD280's headband cracking, but now I'm experiencing it full out. I like these headphones and wish they would've stuck around longer (got them 11/04), but alas! I am not so lucky. Granted, these things have spent more than their...- s3r

Blasphemy: Just listen to the music...
I agree completely, and that's why I'm using such a modest setup - all things totaled for my main listening is about $155. I get the upgrade bug, sure, but then I just settle in more and focus on the music. My previous and next music/audio-related purchases will be more CDs.- s3r

My "Manufacture" Custom Beyerdynamic DT770's arrived...mostly...(pic)
Those look incredible. I was playing around with the Manufacture a while ago and my one wish is that the engraveable silver things on the headbands could be removed or made black, because totally blacked-out DT770s would be outstanding. And 4.5 months to get them?? That seems pretty ridiculous.- s3r

Seattle, any meets coming up?
Me and a friend of mine are looking to attend a meet... we're just getting into this stuff and really want to broaden our horizons. Personally I really want to hear the A900s and DT770s. But we're in the Tri-Cities, so it'd have to be a bigger meet for us to justify attending, and on a weekend.- s3r

Gamers: X-Fi worth it?
Recently I got back into action gaming (FEAR, COD2, etc) at LANs, and I'm finding sound is very important (I forgot how much so!). Right now I'm on a Chaintech AV710, which I love for the stereo audio, but it has no support for game features. So, I'm considering getting the bottom-end X-Fi...- s3r

Upgrade woes / curse you, Head-Fi! / Shops in Portland, OR, USA?
Well, lately I've been unsatisfied with my headphones. All of them. The KSC75 I'm content with, since it only gets used when I'm walking around campus and spending more would be wasteful, but my home cans... eh. I think it was buying a dedicated amp that caused this upgradeitus - the sorry...- s3r

To find "my perfect sound" my wallet must be disemboweled
I'm almost in a similar predicament - I want to upgrade but don't know where to upgrade to. But I'm not as brash as you are, spending $400 on a ton of cans to find the right sound. What I'm waiting for is another big Head-Fi meet to happen in the Portland or Seattle areas, so I can roadtrip...- s3r

What setup are you using right this minute?
Precious Opteron machine -> AV710 -> some cheap mini-mini I found -> MisterX MINT -> HD497. I need to do some more listening, but I'm thinking that my honeymoon period on the SR60 is over, and the HD497 never gets used, so I might keep only the HD280 or perhaps just buy something new. Cursed...- s3r
