Yeah I agree the hd600 is more comfortable than sr-009 but that is because of the fact that hd600 weighs half as much, I have both also but I never use the hd600 since it really can't compete with the sr-009 soundquality-wise. The headband and the construction is not superior to the sr-009 imo.

I am using the metrum octave and haven't had an issue with brightness at all with the SR-009. Fantastic dac, especially for its low price.

Bought mine recently blind too, best hi-fi buy ever! Perfect headphones imo :) No need to buy a superpowerful amp to go along with them either imo since they are rather easy to drive.

Yes no problem, I use a similar setup; Turtle beach micro II usb to receiver through toslink. I get 5.1 if I bypass 5.1 dts/dolby sound directly to the receiver without any interference from the computer.

Ouch, they probably realised that they could jack up the price a bit due to the overwhelming success of the octave.   The octave have a very attractive price considering its performance imo. They probably could have charged more for it.

Been listeninging to my new octave for a couple of days now. Very good first impressions so far!     I think it pairs very nicely with electrostats, very airy and ethereal but still have that analog-like feel to it. Very happy with the dac overall and I believe that it's a keeper :)
