Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398
That's just like mine was before mods. The board version numbers are all also the same (you may be able to see it in my initial post). I'll take a closer look at home this evening but it all looks the same. Mine sounded very competently before the mods, and outstandingly so for the price. Then...- Ektalog

As I mentioned earlier, here are the caps I used in place of the 4 black "CapXon" 220uF electrolytic ones: 2 Nichicon KA 470uF/25vdc (hndme.com 3-KA-470025R0) for the 2 that are close to the voltage regulators 2 Nichicon KA 330uF/25vdc (hndme.com 3-KA-330025R0) for the 2 elsewhere These are...- Ektalog

Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398
I was forced to forgo testing for specific benefits of switching the caps. The caps were changed after most testing of the Sparkos opamp was completed. So, I heard their effect late, and mostly inconclusively (as in "Who did what? and "Was the Sparkos still maturing?"). However: -- I did find...- Ektalog

The LEDs are blue and red. On my board, those black caps were of lesser rating than I would have wanted and, in fact, of lower rating than even other D30 I had seen pictures of. Those other D30 actually had Elna caps in all spots.- Ektalog

Sparkos SS3602 Dual Discrete Op Amp on Toppings D30 -- some impressions & comments (At this point, it was only evaluated on planar speakers. Some cheapo cans helped me also. However, another person will be getting this same unit to compare directly with his own [still] stock D30and on good...- Ektalog

Tks for the input, Sekim! I already had plans to try some of those if the Sparkos falls short. So I am glad to get more input. The current goal is to see if I can get a stable class-A output state, which the Sparkos may provide. However, even if it did, that's only part of the story. The...- Ektalog

Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398
You should be fine, fear no remorse. For about $100 it is a major SQ bargain from the get go, and it may be taken further. I have one as "spare" and I am trying to upgrade it by "rolling opamps". Right now it is breaking in a spanking new Sparkos. It should be a telling sign that I am willing to...- Ektalog

Tks, Diff3! It is always great to learn that someone got helped. Mmm, otoh, I do apologize if I spoiled an excuse to buy the Roland. (A broken toy always serves as heart-softener when I pout and tell my wife "we" need a new one )- Ektalog

Need help Urgent! Looking for a receiver with multichannel analog rca input
Hello Mark, Power-wise, I think that you would get an honest delivery of the watts number. My first Denon AVR was the 2106, with a 90 watts/ch@8ohm power rating. That little sucker could move (my then rather inefficient) Magnepans to nice musical levels. Surprisingly, their power supply was...- Ektalog

DJ, I stopped at the last point for now. Those 2 larger caps seem to "complete" the cycle as far as contributions of the better opamp. Still, I am wondering how far larger I can find good caps to fit in there, and see if further gains ensue. You already have the Elna 470uF in there, next...- Ektalog

cMP and cPlay media player
Quote: Yes, it does. Any of my dual core AMD machines do (with XP or Win7 32, and once Vista-32). They have the AMD chipsets, as well. So far, I have not seen qualified reports that quads can't. I'll keep my eyes open. I wonder if you may be using the "wrong" version of cPlay for AMD...- Ektalog

DJ, further to the reply above, it took me one more day. Last evening I added the 2 Pannys 1200uf. In addition, given what you mentioned, and that the physical proximity may indicate a related function, I added the Elna SII 470uF. This is in the slot next to the Pannys. Then I sat down to...- Ektalog

The Panny's install was delayed...wife demanded "her time"... I may do it this evening if I can get home early. The replacement for the WIMA has turned a bit trickier than I thought. As it turns out, the Mundorf's size is about as big as one can go, because of the case. Perhaps it may...- Ektalog

mfaughn DJ may have bought his M02 much later than I got mine. So, his unit's firmware may have been upgraded by then. I did have to upgrade it. I had to send an email to Musiland, including the unit's serial#. They replied with a password to install the upgrade. The firmware file...- Ektalog

At this stage we are past the 300 hours. It looks like: 1. The opamps change is still the overwhelming driver of improvements 2. The 2 caps next to the DAC chip can be changed to Elna SII (of same voltage but 4.7uF instead of .33uF) - No damage in SQ - The slightest gain in warmth...- Ektalog

Well, by Sunday the sound had fully recovered back to where things were after the improvements with the opamp had happened. The caps had racked up about 280 hours of play. The slight warm up noted earlier stayed stable and repeatable when making close comparisons to the CDP. It is not of a...- Ektalog

OK, DJ. I am giving this pair of Elna S-II a few more hours at their current position this week. This is on the strength of your observation that they may take 300+ hours. Encouragingly, there does seem to be some improvement with the additional 50 hours or so. Yet, I can't wait for 300+ hours...- Ektalog

DJ, what values & brands did you use? In the meantime, I'll look up some notes that I have in a laptop left at the office and tell about "stage 1" later this next week. Today, I was just starting stage 3. However, I made a boo boo with the soldering iron and damaged the red WIMA cap and...- Ektalog
