I tried pulling on the cables and they won't budge. I have the Adidas version so maybe that makes a difference?   I don't want to pull to hard obviously. Where exactly do I pull? the top of the speaker or the bottom?

I am. It seems as though the headphones I have  (shure 440's) need an outside amp to drive them. I can tell the difference between my computer and iPhone 4. It's rough. Maybe all I need is a portable amp then to get things running decent.

What would you consider the best portable mp3 player?

Listening to some bass heavy music and noticed my 440's are pretty flat. Which I'm okay with until I get the Senns. They don't even register the low low bass. I believe it would be called low frequency bass. I hope these Senns hit harder and register them.
