Alternatives to Audiolab M-DAC?
jimbob54: In the worst case, there is always the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 which uses Wolfson WM8742's yeah, its the implementation as opposed to the chip used but a good chip always helps - Pop into your local Richer Sounds (cant believe I said that for something high end! haha) and have a...- amanp

Hi Bud, Sorry about the late reply. I've been busy and up to no good. New Amp/Dac hehe. A couple of hundred is relative and very hard to answer; I'll try help. Basically the M1 Dac is SUPER dynamic and the highs are reeallyy exciting. They take you to the edge but not quite over it. I...- amanp

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
Quote: I agree that these are very revealing and the strumming/reverb of the guitar string is highly realistic but I assure you this is not what I'm hearing. In the worst case scenario and I'm tone deaf (pretty sure I aint!), it should not distort and turn to a fuzz that is completely...- amanp

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
UE have a special place for me. The Metro.Fi.2's were my first real non-stock pair of phones (outside the sony fontopia world)!! I loved them to bits, especially when you pop the filters off. Every product they've produced is at a consistent level of quality (that i've heard including...- amanp

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
So it snowed about 2cm and all of London came to a stand still so I get to "work" from home . That means we play FarCry 3 and start drinking at 2 as opposed to 4. Hmmm... my new source search resumes with a bit of a push then but I still have this desire to get hold of the SM2/SM3s! ...- amanp

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
Quote: Hi mate, When I say screeching, I mean the sound you expect to hear a Hi-Fi speaker make when you put the volume too high and your speaker is about to pop, or start "clipping". I'm going to come straight off the bat and admit I aint the greatest with equalising and I don't have...- amanp

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
I have no idea why you're discussing engine oil, but to add my 2 cents( (and be hypocritical with analogies hehe), I absolutely love the UE 900s. Perhaps the sub bass impact isnt as prominent as I'd like but these are comfortably the best earphone I've owned. I say sub bass ain't that great but...- amanp

are there any fake UE 900?
Maybe it's like mine and the left speaker has a lot "tearing/scratching" on certain frequencies as soon as you go above 50% vol on my cowon. Pi$*es me off! Only thing I hate about these!! I am going to send a furious email to UE. I had the same issue with some UE700s too! Just...- amanp

Alternatives to Audiolab M-DAC?
I just picked up the M1 Dac yesterday - WOW Massive improvement. I am still messing with setting for foobar but it works via USB, optical via 96kbps and upsamples to 192 on USB and optical. coax (need a sound card with an out) so is untested but apparently this is the best (via reviews)...- amanp

Alternatives to Audiolab M-DAC?
Do you mind telling me which had more detail? Also, which had smeared highs? The reason I ask is because the Schiit with the brilliant name and aesthetics is over £100 more and that is excluding the USB connection and shipping. Adding the USB it is £150 more. I can get a brand new...- amanp

Alternatives to Audiolab M-DAC?
So I thought I'd start a new thread about getting a DAC, but hijacking threads is more fun :D (and stops the crap threads). I am looking for something sub £400, preferably about the £225 - £300 mark. Possibly £350 if its v.good. My requirements are: Audio from my PC Via...- amanp

Sony XBA-4 : modification lead me to heaven
I tried removing the foam and it got a bit cleaner (but this could also be the wearing them in for 72 hour burn in "myth") but then I used dual flange tips instead of hybrid tips. Soundstage was a bit wider. detail has always been immense but separation was better to my ears. Give it a crack -...- amanp

Sony XBA-4 ?
I have the XBA 4 ip, I thought they were good but something was lacking. I missed the dynamic driver sound; I guess as Armature's have always missed the life in music personally. THEN I used my dual flange tips with the XBA4's and these truely blew me away (They were MEElec dual flanges or...- amanp

IEM recommendations for my circumstances
I hate the fact that I read a lot of good about the ortofones! Im stuck between those and the Sony XBA-4's (which idiot decided to use a J cord instead of Y?? - That's another rant for another thread). On a serious note, one little clarification: when I say the Phonak PFE's bass is not...- amanp

Phonak PFE 122's are nice. I had to sell mine due to circumstances a while back but they're soo good (and unbelievably comfortable even for small ears) that I am considering getting them now!. They will not quite have the bass for dance music if you like to feel like you're punched in the...- amanp

£500 budget for 2.1 speakers
Loud and punchy and bass heavy just screams Klipsch RB 81. Then you might not need the .1 If you want the house to shake, go with cheaper bookshelves and spend most of your money on a subwoofer, realistically: Monitor Audio Bronze BX2 (£150) Wharfedale 10.1 (£150) with a sub (they sell...- amanp

How to choose between these little bookshelf speakers for a laptop ?
Where about are you from? 75$ is America but you say Europe. What country and what budget in your local country? You're gonna need something a bit bassy personally for that kind of music as opposed to accurate because it has to be immersive. I would say screw the idea of bookshelves and an...- amanp
