Not to be too insistent but I am listening to the 598's right now and the treble is LESS piercing than the D2000. I dont think anyone could describe them as having piercing treble (they ARE made by Senn!!) ... they are "bright" -ish because they have less mid-bass than the typical house-sound...

plus you can find them used for under $200!

Moodyrn, I totally agree! I grew up with this sansui, always loved the look and feel and sound of it. This is definitely not about novelty for me, I can't afford anything else! And if the sound ends up impressing me (which I suspect it will), then all the better. I'm in no rush to spend money...

Thanks for the feedback! I guess I'll just wait til I have everything and see how it sounds as is. I tend to like a warmer sound, so I'm not too worried about that (unless it starts to sound muffled).
