For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....

I'll take a chance with ordering from Ukraine, then. If products are actually getting through, I hate to spend money on Sino tubes. My only experience with them was the ones that came with my amp. Incidentally, I had a tube, a wire wound resistor, and an earphone blow out within a week of...

I was just wondering if anybody has tried the current production Sino tubes. I've currently got a pair of Svetlana tubes which are acceptable for everyday use and some Chathams I use for music. I was looking for a good backup tubes for the Svetlana and noticed the Sino is readily available...

Unless you can find something local (and then have to brave the pandemic), its the only way to receive it in two days or less.

Just curious, is there any difference in sound between the top and bottom getter style? I just confirmed an order on two bottom getter tubes. The seller implied the difference had to do with biasing.

I'll probably go back later with a brush and some ethanol or tape head cleaner since it'll resist corrosion, I was just trying to use what I've got for a good connection. My soldering iron broke several years back and I haven't really needed one, but I'll order one when I do.

I know its not quite morning, but I couldn't wait. Cleaning the tubes worked. They now sound about how I expected them too. Nice and warm, but clear.

I tried using a magic eraser, but it was turning that black so I used a scotch bright pad to get most of the grime off and then polished with magic eraser. Hopefully it was just getting a bad connection in the amp and I won't have to re-solder. I'll try it out in the morning.

Thanks for the offer. If I did it myself, do you just touch an iron to the pin briefly to melt the solder and let it harden again? I think I'll start by just cleaning the leads with something. I should have some NOS Chatham 6AS7G tubes in a few days. I'll wait and see how those work out...

I'm getting some weird sounds in the background of my RCA tubes that I don't hear at all in my Svetlana tubes. Best I can describe it, it sounds like I'm playing a scratchy record. Does this mean they're probably bad tubes? I bought them used to save a few dollars over NOS, but it wasn't the...

I used to play a lot against my roommate in college, but really haven't played since then. My nephew and I will play sometimes, but he's much better than I am. I'm not sure if I used to be better when I played regularly or if I overestimated my skill. He can see several moves ahead and sets...

Also, the 5c is the military version and the 13c is the consumer version (someone correct me if I'm backward). They're the same tube made to slightly different tolerances. They should be interchangeable, but I've seen posts that say one sounds better than the other. I've never heard the 5c...

lol. I haven't gotten into golf, yet. I spent my money on a new mountain bike over the summer, so not much money or time left for golf at the moment.

Thanks for replying. I forgot you mentioned the ferrite clamps; I'll try to locate some of those and see if it helps. I have no problem moving the GFCI to the wall. I would install a plug in the wall, but I don't own the apartment. I'll try this out and see if any of it helps.

I'm sure your amp does sound better than mine, but I'm not good enough with electronics to start experimenting too much. Maybe I'll get a Crack to play with. I replaced the resistors because one of them burned out and took an earphone with it. The new resistors sound much better, but I'm...

    Computer creating ground noise

Based on this, is it acceptable to use the GFCI adapter in the wall and a three way tap to plug the two amps into it? Or buying a multi outlet GFCI adapter? I don't think a tube amp needs surge protection the way a PC does.

    Computer creating ground noise

You obviously know more about this than I do, so I'm not questioning what you say, I'm just trying to understand. When I plug the PC, amps, monitor, etc into a single multi-outlet surge protector, I'm getting ground noise that gets worse while the computer is busy. And its not a traditional...

    Computer creating ground noise

So here's a couple pictures of what I ended up doing. Could you please let me know if I'm doing anything I shouldn't (or if I need to do anything additional). I appreciate the help you've given me so far. First, I created a ground from one chassis to the other. Its currently a length of 16...

    Computer creating ground noise

So, I used electrical tape to temporarily fix a piece of 16 AWG wire from my amp chassis to my pc chassis and tested the sound with different plug setups. With the ground-lift plugs attached to the amp, its still dead silent. Is there anything else I needed to do properly ground (obviously...

    Computer creating ground noise

I think I may have solved the problem. I used the cheater plug on a single outlet ground fault circuit interrupter to cut the ground loop. Into the GFCI I put a three way tap to which I have both amps plugged in. It looks absolutely ghetto, and doesn't have a true connection to earth, but the...

    Computer creating ground noise

I guess I was looking at the wires coming off the PCB and assuming they were ground. What does this mean I need to do to properly ground the unit? Just attach a wire to the chassis? And if the RCA is isolated from the chassis does that mean the unit isn't grounded now?

    Computer creating ground noise

Here's the inside of the unit. It appears that on the RCA cables is attached directly to the chasse. Would I just need to put a ground connection of the outside of the case next to the RCA terminal?

I just opened my amp to check another issue, but was noticing my poor soldering work. Story here is that my soldering iron conked out and I called a neighbor who does electronics. He told me to bring the amp over. It turned out that he was using a plumbing iron for electronics and just...

    Computer creating ground noise

Thanks for answering. This puts me more at ease that I can use the setup without risking electrocution. I think you are correct that a ground terminal is the best solution. If nothing else, the current setup will fry my PC in the event of a ground fault. Directing the power through the case...
