Another vote for Koss KSC75. This is a set of headphones that every beginner should have. If you buy those sub $100 headphones make sure you don't itch for upgrade! or else you end up spending more!- aeroes

Buy yourself a used one to save money. PERIOD. Think about this: shipping? + taxes? + tools? + obsession? The latter is the most expensive one- aeroes

If STEPS is better than ELPAC, should I expect a difference between ELPAC and TREAD? I've heard TREAD is identical to STEPS in Ripple Rejection Test. TREAD could be a good solution to those who are prudent.- aeroes

Sony SA series mod (56k warning?)
I second the EQ suggestion, and in case someone is looking for an accurate EQ IMO, the best EQ out there for winamp is the Enhancer v0.17 the most accurate I've ever heard and IMMO sound better than foam mod. Install the plug-in to winamp and play with your fave setting. CHEERS!- aeroes

Sony SA series mod (56k warning?)
Actually, I already tried this mod 2 months ago- it didnt sound any better to this ears, some details are gone, didnt improve the bass like I expected and lost its midrange, I coin-mod the foam 'thought it might sound better but it didnt help. But YMMV, it might sound good for others its just me- aeroes

Why buy an expensive CANS if you don't wanna amped them? What's the point? I mean, DT880 can't show its real potential without an amp. I recommend koss 35/75 instead!- aeroes
