Cypher Labs Algorithm Solo
I've obsessively read the threads and reviews. I recognize that the iPod is not the best player ever, but its UI and memory trump everything else out there. Though the Color Fly is the best designed DAC and has a good sound, I can't jump onboard because the memory is useless. Nor do I want...- dgiles

Cypher Labs Algorithm Solo
I am replacing my iMod and TTVJ Slim. They were stolen. Bah. Anywho... I am considering replacing these with a CLAS and ALO Continental. My concern is does the CLAS justify the cost. I am all for the best possible sound quality I can get. But I don't want to spend more money than needed...- dgiles

I have a budget of $500...
I feel the AKG's are a bit tough to drive with even a great amp, and don't know if the Fio would be up to the job. They are also, super super neutral. It sounds like a good thing, but you don't realize how much appreciation we can give a colored sound until you have something that neutral...- dgiles

Closed Grado
It is tough to find a good closed headphone in the $100 range compared to the 80i. Physics is just working against you and I don't find you get into equal sound quality until you spend $200-$300 on a pair. But staying under $100 I would look at the Urbanears Plattan or the Marshal Major. Same...- dgiles

Looking to get first headphones
There is a lot to consider beyond just the headphones. If you are running off an iPod with no amplification you many of the headphones listed here are going to be under driven. Their also really big for a portable rig. I listen to Ultrasones and own the ED 8's and Pro 650's. The pro 650's...- dgiles

Ipod Classic + [???] + Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro 600ohm
I don't agree that you need to go the route of a DAC/ Amp combo. There are a bunch of good amps out there between $200 and the $650 you would shell out for the HP-P1. I don't think sonically the HP-P1 is for everyone. It is more important to find an amp that will meet sour sonic expectations...- dgiles

Fostex HP-P1 or RSA SR-71??
You should understand the difference between an amp, a DAC and product that takes the digital data from the Ipod, bipasses the Ipod's lower quality internal circuitry and uses a separate higher quality DAC then sends the superior analog signal to an amp. Some amps have built in DAC's, like the...- dgiles

Which LOD cable is a better deal?
I like the Neutrik because they are a great price for the quality. Oyaide are great, but a bit pricy to put on an LOD which will have far less affect on the sound than your amp, though I love their work. Switchcraft are also good. Can't go wrong with any of them really. I would stay away...- dgiles

Which LOD cable is a better deal?
I would recommend looking at Trends Audio's LOD at the low end of $30: http://www.trendsaudio.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=191&category_id=8&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=71&lang=en. And max out at $65 for Moon Audio's Blue Dragon or Silver Dragon...- dgiles

Cheap LOD?
I have owned a few LOD's and have noticed some clarity differences, though very minor, in the cables I've owned. I have busted the bank with an ALO super pipe and used an inexpensive silver cable LOD I purchased off of ebay, and I use a .5 meter LOD I ordered from Trends Audio with my IPad if...- dgiles

What should i replace my Beats by Dre. Solo HD with?
I like Ultrasone as a brand. I know not everyone loves them and they are a more divisive brand than Beyer or Sennheiser. But I have owned four different pairs and use a pair of Ultrasone's as my go to portable headphones. I like the Hifi 580's but noticed recently the 780's are $151 on...- dgiles

Need Legit Headphones. Got $150
If I were you I would stay away from the Beats brand for one simple reason, once you get them out of the Best Buy they have little value. Beats are quickly losing resale value on the used market because there are a great deal of fake Beats out there. Just check your local craigslist and see...- dgiles

Fake Dr. Dre Tour Beats
I am guessing this isn't news to folks, but there are ton of fake Dr. Dre Beats stuff on Amazon and Craigslist. Only buy Dr. Dre stuff from a reputable supplier, Best Buy and the like. Though I would recommend against the entire Beats line because of sound quality.- dgiles

Head-Fi mentioned in New York Times article about headphones!
This is a great thing!!! I am always in awe of how many people are really passionate about their headphones. My wife, a psychologist, was able to bond today with a suicidal man because he loves headphones and she hears me blather about the ones I've had, have and hope to have - always curious...- dgiles

Best amp for IEM's
I would research what will match well with your IEM's. What sound do they have and what sound do you hope for. Base your amp choice by the sound signature you are seeking. Something warmer, go for the TTVJ, cooler, the ALO RX MKII. If size and shape isn't as important look at the RSA amps. ...- dgiles

TTVJ vs Pico Slim vs Furutech ADL Cruise
I own the TTVJ and love it. The sound is excellent and it is easy to carry in a pocket when velcro-ed to my ipod. I tried the slip, a bit small compared to the ipod, so oddly enough, it makes the whole rig more clumsy. I find the warmth does an excellent job to temper the sound from my...- dgiles

I have a pair of Palladium Edition 8's with Moon-Audio Silver Dragon V3 cable. I was thinking about selling them, Sound is good, fit isn't perfect. I was talking with a friend about it. He's a jeweler. He said if they have palladium cups I should recycle them. He said his jewelry store...- dgiles
