The sound isn't that different and both sounded excellent. The practicalities of the Sony easily swung it for me. But if you are happy to consider a heavier chunkier device and like a warmer sound then see if you can listen to the Shanling.

I had both and kept the Sony. Smaller, lighter, nicer UI, different (not better or worse) sound signature. The Shanling is warmer, Sony a little more exciting.

The Null cables are superb and I use one of these with my IE300s. Another good option (if you are happy with soldering) is to buy the Sennheiser compatible MMCX connectors from Aliexpress (super cheap) for and swap them for the regular MMCX connectors from any cable that you currently like.

"Normal" 306 user here. Still sounding great after the update.

I had the Miter case briefly and returned it as it didn't fit. It was *very* tight and the A306 stuck out by 2mm at the end. Your's does look like a better fit though! I can only guess that this is due to one of: 1. Miter tolerances not great (unlikely - their quality is high) 2. Miter changed...

For anyone looking for a case, the CKS-NWA100 case for the A105 fits really well. Might be easier getting hold of one of these than the A306 one.

Hey Graham, I would recommend AccessoryJack. I ordered mine via them to the UK and had great service. Delivery in around 5 days, no import charges, HK model with no volume cap and no bass issue, cheaper than buying from Amazon UK.

Yes, the Miter one. I also thought it would fit well, which is why I ordered it, but definitely too tight and definitely sticks out by 2mm sadly.

Don't buy this for the A306 - I did and just returned it as it is too tight and leaves the end sticking out by a few mm. Very nearly right, but unfortunately not quite.

Roon Arc works fairly well, but until Roon add the capability, you can't save files to the SD card (same as all DAPs) and performance is a little sluggish due to their poorly optimised code. FWIW, PlexAmp is currently much better for both functionality and performance if you are happy to try an...

I've owned the DX170 and M3U. A306 sounds just as good or better and in a much nicer size package. No going back for me, I'm delighted with it. Buy from somewhere you can return safely or wait for a clear resolution to the current bass issue.

Just to add another data point: A306, HK model via Accessory Jack, Black, Serial 1000216 - No issue Comparing in rapid A/B tests with my ZX507 and it sounds just as full in the bass and overall slightly better SQ. Very happy here, but concerned for anyone suffering the bass issue.

Another quick mention for AccessoryJack - imported a HK non-capped model to the UK in aprox. 5 days, no import duties, cheaper than buying new in UK.

Yes, more power, but mostly as I had settled on 4.4mm cables for all my headphones and use these on my ZX507. Was hoping the 300 series would be nearer to the 500 series than 100, but apparently not.

Looks like 3.5mm only? Such a shame - was really hoping for a balanced port on this model.
