The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!

I just checked. I didn't buy the S680 from him. I bought the S500 from him. I bought the S680 from another seller on eBay.

Thanks for the response. It is all clear now.

Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

I'm not sure if there's an audiophile grade cable for these sort of connections (4.4mm to XLR ; USB Type C to Type B). My USB Type A to Type B cable that's currently connecting my laptop to the DAC costs about $600.

Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Thanks for the response. With this connection, I presume the output signal will not go through the internal DAC of the M3X? If using the 4.4mm to XLR cable, I presume the output signal will go through the internal DAC of the M3X?

Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Thanks for the prompt response. Just to confirm, 1. If a 4.4mm to XLR cable is used to connect the balanced output of the M3X to an external DAC as shown in the photo below, is the output signal processed by the internal DAC of the M3X? 2. If a USB Type-C to Type-B cable is used to connect...

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!

Thanks for that. I have just briefly skimmed through the responses in the thread but will read through it in detail when I have more time. I still own a pair of headphones (Takstar Pro 82) and similarly it's rarely used as it stays in the box 99% of the time. The last time I checked, the ear...

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!

Looks like this thread is still running. I just recently sold the JVC HA-S680 dirt cheap ($2) since the earpads and outer layer of the headband had decayed. I rarely use the headphones and had it in the closet most of the time. Just earlier this year when I was doing some spring cleaning, I...

Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Would like to inquire about the Shanling M3X. If I understand it correctly, the M3X comes with "USB Transport Function" which enables the unit to transmit digital audio signal to a standalone DAC. In other words, when the Shanling M3X is connected to an external DAC, the internal DAC in the...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I only play digital FLAC files these days, no CDs although I still keep them. The CD player was retired several years ago and it's currently on the display rack.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Just to add, the QBD76 will not be sold even if I intend to add another Chord DAC to the system in the near future. It's a keeper.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Hi Bonesy Jonesy, Thank you for the comprehensive post which is certainly useful to me. It's rare to have someone own so many top-notch Chord gear in the system and to be able to compare and assess the performance of each and every component. I appreciate the experience. The QBD76 is indeed a...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Hi. May I ask if you have experience with the QBD76. I have this DAC in the main system and it sounds splendid. I cannot consider the Hugo2 as it doesn't have USB-B connection and can't take a full-sized power cord and balanced interconnects. Is the Hugo2/MScaler a noticeable improvement over...

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

Will look at your post later. Currently there isn't any "problem" with the bass as I find the 3dB and 6dB bass boost settings to be good listen. The standard setting just sounds a little flat due to the subdued bass.

Which is supposed to be a "newer" model? What sort of different paint job is it between the versions? Thanks.

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

I driving the headphones directly from my LG V20. I don't listen to music with too much heavy bass but for bass-orientated music I surely feel the Pro 82 to be on a higher level. In actual fact I do think the Pro 82 is superior to the S680 in all areas. The bass of the S680 is full and fat while...

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

I have been listening to the Prostar 82 for about 30 minutes now. Even before burn in this thing sounds great. A significant improvement from the JVC HA-S680 in areas of clarity, transparency and detail. Superb gear that is very nicely built as well. So far the only minor gripe is the bass on...

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

Posts like yours surely add to the worry. There shouldn't be any difference in the cable length or dynamic range that produces a higher volume on the 2nd unit of the Pro 82. The volume of the headphones should be essentially the same, and the length of the cable should be the same as well unless...

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

All this talk about the Pro 82 not doing very well with vocals (or otherwise), fortunately that does not bother me since 95% of the material that I listen to are instrumental music, mostly smooth jazz and jazz fusion (Earl Klugh, Lee Ritenour, Chris Geith, Bill Evans, Chris Spheeris, Dan Siegel...

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

Thanks for the information. That was useful. When you mentioned the Beyerdynamic T1 has a disjointed sound from the rest, I can somehow relate to this comment. I think this is the analytical sound I was referring to earlier, the separation between instruments and voices. It's difficult to...

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

I will probably get the headphones late next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they will live up to my expectations with my V20. Knowing by own standards (I find the JVC HA-S680 to sound pretty good with the V20), I think the Pro 82 will not disappoint.

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

A picture paints a thousand words. One pair surely has much thicker pads than the other one. The difference was marked even by looking at the photos. I wonder how Takstar is doing the QAQC at their factory when they produce these headphones.

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

I have the LG V20 and have read that all this talk about the "trick" for the V20 to run in high gain is a cheat as the headphones will sound the same with the V20 either in low or high gain.

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

Thanks for the information. That's certainly good to hear. 5 to 7 hours a day, that's certainly quite a feat! The Pro 82 was chosen mainly for its comfort (reported to be more comfortable than the JVC HA-S680 that I currently have), improvement in sound quality will be a bonus.

Takstar Pro 82/GM200 Review, impressions and discussion thread

May I ask which has a more analytical sound or higher listening fatigue, the T1 or Pro 82? I used to own the Beyerdynamic T1 and Meier amp many years ago. They were sold in just less than a year as the T1 felt uncomfortable to me. I cannot seem to have the T1 on my head for long, usually not...
