I totally agree. Now, all 1k systems seem sound very good to me. It is very hard for me to tell which one is better, only the flavor is different. In fact, the HP1000 and R10 sound did not Wow me that much at the meeting, maybe the system did not match very well.  The staxs are good, However...

Yes. the amp will bring deeper and more controlled bass, less shrill highs. 

I have D3 and 601, the sound is very different, the output is similar. 601 has a very special smooth warm sound but lacking parkling highs, a very subjective player. the D3 has very common sound flavor.

As pure music, I live strokes. But sound quality wise, their albums are really poorly recorded and mastered with very thin, simple and flat sound.
