Quote: I might just take your advice and hear the headphones for a week or so before plunging into a dedicated amp.

    AKG K702 Annie Amp

Quote: I think the novelty of a tube amp is nice. I'm not 100% sure I want a tube/DAC combo though. As I will be using the mixamp or my receiver isntead of directly off the computer, the DAC might be useless to me at this time. So the T1 is iffy for me. But it sure is beautiful. I'm...

Best Bass Headphones for under 200$

Quote:   The OP only mentioned 3 words, "don't suggest beats." So it is just you that is having issues. Perhaps you're insecure with yourself based on your previous purchase of the Beats and the fact that even your name suggests you're a Beats fanatic.   It doesn't matter whether...

Been being recommended the ATH-M50, not sure what I need.

The nice thing about the M50 is that they can be powered by anything. They are closed so you can take them with you and just plug them into your phone and have good quality music. They are bass heavy but I think in a good way.   But using your budget of $500... lets see what would best fit...

    UE 6000 vs ATH-m50's?

I don't like the active noise cancellation on headphones for sound quality. I'm a pilot and that technology has done wonders in the world of flying but it doesn't transfer well into SQ in my opinion, and if you look at the reviews many share my opinion too. Based on this, I would never use this...

    In-Ear Earphones For Running

I personally use the Sennheiser MX 680 at the gym. It's sweat and water resistant. Sounds pretty good to me.   I think it's $25 on amazon. I think it's discontinued as the new model came in but those are $60.

    College headphone advice

The monoprice headphones are pretty nice, also come with a removable cord. Price can't be beat.

    Need Comfy Cans Recommendation ($100-200)

I'm very happy with my ATH-M50 headphones. I think they sound pretty good with the electronica and pop music. I've had no problems wearing them for hours. They are closed though.

    PC360 vs PC363D and PC350 vs PC350SE

I'm sort of in the same boat as you.   I ended up buying AKG K702 Annie ($350) and a mod mic ($40). The Annie will need a separate amp, but you could get yourself a very nice headset say a DT990 attach the mod mic and you're good to go. Better sound, excellent mic, and still cheaper than the...

    AKG K702 Annie Amp

I've read as much as I can regarding these cans and amps, but I still can't narrow it down. I just bought the Annies from a local store. They didn't have any in stock so they were ordered in and will be delivered to my door.   I would like to purchase an amp. My budget is $300. I just am not...

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Yesterday I plugged my M50's into my receiver and tried out the video from the MLE guide:     The M50's did OK for positional cues. As the guy moved around I was able to hear where the shots were coming from.   So my last question, with a budget of $500. What are the best headphones...

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Quote: My receiver pushes my speakers just fine. I can't really justify buying a new receiver just for a set of cans. I rather buy a the headphones and a separate amp and the virtual surround thingy.

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Quote: I would rather a wired set. I already bought a modmic to go with the headset. Pointless to buy a wireless set and still have the wire from the mic. Thanks for the heads up though, I might consider this as a plan B.

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Quote: I really appreaciate the detailed response.   I have an Onkyo RC-180. Back in the day it was really impressive. http://www.digitaltrends.com/receivers-separates-amps-reviews/onkyo-ht-rc180-review/   My current set-up uses the HDMI from my video card and the HDMI from the PS3...

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Quote: Can you amplify a signal that has been processed and still maintain the processing?   Can i put a device in between my source and the amp to give it surround and then amplify it using my onkyo?   Or am I better off going the route the PC gamers do with a soundcard?

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Quote: I hear you. So I guess I'll have to invest in some sort of virtual sound device thing.   My top concern is movies. Gaming is secondary and will be done on the PS3/PS4 and the PC.

    Headphones just for Home Theater

Quote:   I've been looking into the cans you mentioned, unfortunately many are over the budget and unless they're God tier instant panty dropper by just wearing them out in public... I can't justify spending that much at this point in time.   I found these prices:   DT990 ($360)...

What headphones would suit my needs?

I asked a similar question a few years back and I was told to get the ATH-M50. I think I got mine for about $100 using some coupons but currently Amazon has it for $140... Ebay has it around $130 from a reputable seller.   They're great set of headphones with no real need of an amp. They...

    Headphones just for Home Theater

I'm not 100% sure if my amp has any extra settings for the audio jack. So I guess I will assume it's stereo. That's a great point though, I would like surround sound if possible. I will have to research this to see what is needed for surround.   Sound isolation is of no concern, I'll be...
