    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

@HiFiChris Thanks! I really appreciate you sharing your experience with the Geek Out.  It sounds like it probably isn't the best fit for me personally.

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Thanks for the opinion.  I'm not worried about enough power, I'm actually worried essentially about the opposite.  Most DAC/AMP combos I've tried have a hard time with the SE846 because it's difficult to adjust the volume since even a tiny bump will drive them to deafening levels.  Analog volume...

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Has anyone tried the Geek Out IEM 100 with these?  It seems to be intended for use with highly sensitive IEMs, but I'm having a hard time finding many opinions about that particular model (and especially the noise floor).

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

I think it's more about what type of music you listen to than what volume you listen at.  My taste is generally towards acoustic and classical stuff, which can have a number of quiet or silent passages during which you can hear the hiss regardless of how much you crank it up.  It's definitely...

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

I appreciate the responses to my question.  Maybe I should just give up the dream and use my phone as a DAP.  It doesn't seem to have the hiss problem that my laptop does, which probably makes up for issues with battery, capacity, etc.

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive portable USB DAC/amp to pair these with?  I do most of my listening with a laptop and it's got a very obvious hiss when used directly.  I have tried a couple of inexpensive options like the Schiit Fulla and it simply isn't a good match.  I...

Sennheiser 558 warm HP ? How is possible ?

For starters, don't read just one review and assume everything in it is objective and exactly what you will experience.  A lot of people's headphone impressions are biased by what they are comparing against or the sound they are most used to.  Furthermore, a lot of people use vague words like...

Best recorded albums of all time?

No, you're spot on.  I love OK Computer musically, but it isn't that great of a recording and the CD version in particular suffers from being extremely compressed.  I think sometimes people just don't know the difference.   I'm not trying to put anybody down, I just think some people don't...

    Does youtube add extra bass?

In addition to what WraithApe already mentioned, there's an unfortunate trend on youtube where people will rip the audio from someone else's videos and rehost them, presumably to try to get attention for their channel or to monetize views.  This could potentially result in multiple lossy...

    Do you like IOS 8.4?

I'm normally no defender of Apple, but this is a ridiculous and exaggerated thread.  Any device you have continues to play from your local library just fine.  Did you not notice the big "take me to my music" button when you launched the application?   Don't like it?  It turns out there's a...

    Best earphones for classical, unamped?

Just a heads up, you'll probably have more luck with your request in the intro/recommendations forum.  Additionally, you should provide a little more information.  Are you looking for full-size but portable cans?  IEMs?  Same price range as your DT 660?

Best recorded albums of all time?

@coastal1 As you mention, Folk Singer was recorded in the 60s onto tape and will therefore naturally have a little bit of tape hiss.  On my digital copy, ripped straight from CD, it is much less prominent than it is on some other records.  I can only hear it with the volume relatively loud on...

GOT IT! NEW PAIR OF AUDEZE LCD3

I don't own any Audeze stuff (yet) so I can't say for sure, but neither is listed in the "Package includes" section on the official website.   Would you mind sharing where you got that nice looking knit cover for the headband?  I wouldn't mind having something like that to keep mine clean and...

Acceptable 2.0 speakers 6 or fewer inches in height?

Thanks for a really helpful replies!  I was a little hesitant to post this here since it's: 1) a recommendation request, albeit a very specific one, and 2) not about headphones, so I'm particularly grateful for the information.   My desktop doesn't have bluetooth support, so despite the pretty...

Acceptable 2.0 speakers 6 or fewer inches in height?

I have a pretty cramped desk, but would like to pick up some speakers/monitors that can fit underneath my screens.  The total height available is about 6 inches.  Finding the actual dimensions has been pretty hard, as Amazon seems to generally list the size of the packaging rather than the...

Why is the closed-back market so bad?

I'm pretty similar and, in addition to not wanting to disturb people, sometimes the neighbor kids playing outside are loud enough to make open backs useless.  It's a rare (but beloved) occasion when I'm in a quiet, dedicated place to really appreciate my open-back phones.

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

You could try trimming some of the Shure ones down yourself (at your own risk, obviously, I haven't tried this).  The yellow foam ones are probably very easy to cut with an xacto knife or even scissors and you wouldn't break the bank getting more of them if necessary.

    MAGISTER - 40% PROMOTION PRICE

@Levaix Have you gotten around to writing a review?  I'd like to read more impressions of these as I'm expecting to get some relatively soon via a trade.

AKG K3003 High End 3 Way System Headphone

I initially had a similar problem, but what I found is that the K3003s don't seem to be designed to be inserted as deeply as other IEMs.  I use the smallest tips (and sometimes the small Comply tips) and both are a tight fit.  For me the good news is that the sound is not negatively impacted...

Shure SE535 LTD super annoying cable

Thanks.  I'll take a look at both of those options since Amazon is pretty good about returns.

Shure SE535 LTD super annoying cable

For what it's worth, I discovered that Shure sells replacement cables (on Amazon, and probably elsewhere) and so I've ordered one of the plain ones.  Hopefully this will resolve my problem, but I'm still not sure how well it will work considering the originals have that angled plastic.

Shure SE535 LTD super annoying cable

I just recently picked up some of the red Shure SE535 LTD IEMs and while I'm happy with them in nearly every way, I hate both of the cables they come with (not the sonics, but the design).  I'm rather surprised I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but in order to add the microphone and...
