Brothers in Vinyl
The turntable today is not complete without a means to get the music to the computer. I use a Creative Sound Blaster X-FI HD Premium external sound card to interface; and, I use Roxio's Easy LP to Mp3 editing software to create CDs and WAV files.- sterling1

OPPO UDP-205 2x ES9038PRO 4K Ultra HD Audiophile Blu-ray Disc Player & DAC
I bought an Airport Express to get the Airplay wireless function. I do not need that function with the UDP-205. What I need is 5.1 analog output, as well as the ability to play multi-channel SACDs. I also want to be able to enjoy 4K Ultra Bllu-ray Discs; and, I want to get hi-res tunes from my...- sterling1

Looking for some bookshelf speakers for sub $300
Well, sure you would want to; but, considering the OPPO's capabilities: DAC, Streamer, Headphone Amp; as well as the balanced output and Airplay, it would be ideal. And, pretty hard to buy desktop speakers having a better price to performance ratio than the JBL 305s.- sterling1

Windows 10 Finally Getting Native USB 2 Audio Support
Yes, it is a standard; but, the fact that certain drivers don't work correctly on a computer loaded with Windows 10 does not mean it's a Microsoft problem.- sterling1

Brothers in Vinyl
I'm running a 43 year old Sony PS-4750 turntable and a 30 year old Shure V15V-MR cartridge. I also have a Shure M97xE cartridge, which I purchased recently to supplement the older cartridge. At any rate, using either cart, my LP's sound virtually indistinguishable from CD's on same material...- sterling1

Best Computer Audio Player Software?
Quote: I wonder about how processing errors are corrected? My Sony PCM-7010F DAT Recorders have very powerful error correction for 16/44.1 and 16/48. The outcome is, as I hear it, the most life-like sound I've heard so far from a digital device. Interestingly enough, these recorders...- sterling1

Best Computer Audio Player Software?
There's has not been a "standard" since 16/44.1 PCM. Not a problem however as today's players will play most any formatted file. I use iTunes. The iTunes library stores ALAC, WAV, AIFF, and AAC files. I have music in all of those file types.- sterling1

Computer audio: listening more here (and spending more). than in living room..anyone else?
It does seem I too am more often digesting computer audio than from CD player, etc. I think eventually I'll just get an OPPO Sonica DAC and stream to my home theatre. Such an arrangement will allow media access and mobility that I only have to a limited degree using Airport Express for wireless...- sterling1

iTunes playback settings (please help me understand this once and for all)
I have iTunes set to Windows Audio Session, 192kHz sample rate, and 24 bits per sample on one of my laptop computers. I do not listen to iTunes using the laptop's speakers; instead, using an Airport Express device, which gives me an Airport Wireless function, I enjoy iTunes music from my home...- sterling1

With iTunes, your files remain anywhere you want them. All iTunes does when given permission is open the file from where ever it is stored. You do not need WinAmp at all to enjoy iTunes. After installing iTunes, just allow it to open a file or two of some music you have stored someplace on...- sterling1

What makes you believe the fidelity with iTunes will be lacking? It plays hi-res PCM, as well as AIFF, and ALAC lossless, which cannot be distinguished it appears by most as having any less fidelity than the same material on SACD.- sterling1

Best Computer Audio Player Software?
Computer audio for stereo retrieves and delivers all you would hear from a CD; but, what's missing today, that's to say, what has not matured, is the means to download multi-channel DSD and deliver it wirelessly to a pre/pro. The future of music reproduction is multi-channel, lot's of...- sterling1

Best Computer Audio Player Software?
You do know that any music you download from Apple Music can indeed be purchased from the iTunes Store. Just delete the download, then go to the iTunes Store and purchase it. The music will then be downloaded as a "purchase", which will not disappear if you were to cancel service. I love Apple...- sterling1

great find:: cleanest usb audio, best sound
I'm satisfied with the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD external sound card for USB to S/PDIF, S/PDIF to USB and analog to USB. It operates at 24/96, which is all my ears can handle. I can not discern any noise until volume is beyond reference level. In other words, I can listen to iTunes via...- sterling1

Best Computer Audio Player Software?
In audio, as in everything else marketed, it has always been about what folks can be persuaded to believe, not so much about the truth. When the truth gets in the way, then the marketing gurus go to emotional appeals. These appeals defy logic and critical thinking; yet, may win out over the...- sterling1

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes
iTunes "match" will up or downsample users uploads to 256k @ 44.1. In my experience the service has not stored a different copy. In fact, I sometimes wish the service did. Much of my music was originally ripped from LP's; and, some of those have the snap, crackle, and pop associated with...- sterling1
