Yeah that's what I'm aiming for.  EQ won't do it right as it's the port bouncing off the walls in the corner that's making it sound muddy and boomy.  As long as it won't damage the sub/driver then I'll stick with the tea towel trick.

Clever! Just shows my naivety to all of this.  I thought EQs were done after the conversion to analogue!   So what's the correct way to do all of this? Leave the phone app on flat with no boosts, at 100% and adjust the treble/bass/gain on the Fiio? Or EQ it on the phone app until it sounds...

Can confirm it works with my Note2.  However I'm a little confused? The audio app EQ changes the sound when going over USB to the E07K. Why is this? I thought the DAC was just reading a digital signal of the files?

Essentially all wires plugged directly to your ears will carry microphonics, but some can hide it more than others.  A twisted or braided cable will produce hardly any noticeable cable noise.  'Earthing' the noise by clipping the cable to your shirt will help also.      Depends very much...

For the other Brits on here besides myself, amazon.co.uk have them at £99.99, or £132 for the X10i version.  I'm tempted to spend the little extra (I got a £100 amazon vouch for xmas) so I can use the line controls when not using the amp.  I run android so only the middle button will work, but...

I would really appreciate that personally.  The only thing stopping me from ordering them now (aside from the price of course) are the reports of their poor build quality.

Thanks.  yeah I'm not bothered about the mic, I always take my earphones out to answer the call - I hate talking when I can't hear myself, always end up shouting lol.  It's the controls that I want so I don't have to keep taking my phone out of my pocket.  

I can get X10i for £150, or Monster Turbine Pro Gold + Control Talk for £188.  Should I spend the extra, or just stick with my original plan of the X10i?

Yeah I'm not a bass head, but I do enjoy it - as long as it is accurate and not muddy.  The Etymotic HF3 aren't going to be bassy enough for me either going off reviews :(
