The Schiit SACD/DSD Research Thread--Your Chance to Win a Bifrost!

      1. Are you familiar with SACD? DSD? Very.   2. Do you own any SACDs? One or two bargain bin ones, like Dark Side of the Moon.    3. If so, what percentage of your collection is SACD vs CD or files? Sort of irrelevant question for me. I EAC my collection, then only get the case...

Why do you prefer passive speaker/monitors?

Prefer active. Passive just incites the urge to 'tinker', I.e. waste a lot of time and money for little gain with amps (at the very least). Or even occupy your mind with valuable thoughts like what you may potentially be missing out on with x amp, compared to that prettier y amp. Active just...

The Thing (2011) - 10/10 for enjoyment, realistically a 6-8/10 depending on your mood.   I get it, it isn't as amazing as John Carpenter's masterpiece. Considering what they had to work with, to attempt to reverse engineer the old set that never appeared in a completed form is quite amazing...

    AKG K550 - NEW!!

Quote: Tried both the HD650 and 600, sold them and still own my K701.   Currently talking to an Australian store about trialing a pair of K550s. Hope my expectations aren't setting me up for disappointment.

1k MAV kills, and you think I spend my time effectively?-> you're quite dim. I don't understand how it warrants a facepalm either, it's a hefty score for a MAV.

Alan Parsons (Dark Side of the Moon) Rips Audiophiles

Inclined to agree that APP is bass light, and that suites it like you mentioned. Strongly disagree with your view on room acoustics. When bass frequencies can extend 20dB+ in an untreated room, controlling that is quite significant.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I liked these more than my old HD650s. However, I understand why everyone calls the 650s 'refined' when comparing the two. Great headphones though.

    Foobar, Wasapi, temporary silence?

I've had problems with that, but a lot of things don't agree with Win 8 at the moment. Which doesn't help narrow down the cause, other than previously mentioned and probably correct suggestions. Next time try closing foobar, hit Control+shift+Delete and end AudioDG.exe. Reopen foobar and play...

    Headphone Sightings 2

Lets see. I went to work, somewhat close the the CBD. Saw beats. Had a customer come in wanting to repair a pair of bose headphones that'd frayed near the plug (holy **** they're comfortable though). Went into the city to pick up a Joystick for my brother (loves his BF3). Saw beats. Sat next to...

Lyrics are important to me. It's a big part of my distaste for pop music. I don't care what clubs these people are singing about, nor the amount of alcohol they want to consume, or what rebecca black does on a friday...

Ahh.., Maybe gentle giant. But they're not quite as vague or verbose. I wasn't attacking his lyrics, just pointing out a fun fact. I love In the Court's title track, it has some of my favourite lyrics. They're perfectly translated in the vocal performance, and are sort of macabre.

The end of Happy Family on Lizard ends with Haskell having a laugh at Sinfield's lyrics. I don't think Haskell had any positive experiences recording Lizard. He's still bitter about it.

Ultimate Ears UE-x Pro Custom; Appreciation, Review & Discussion thread

Couple questions: I'm thinking about getting a pair, most likely the 5s. I can't many impressions about their sound. Should I expect neutrality or something bass oriented like the 7s? Second, how is the custom art work done? Do I send in a quick photoshop mock up and they take it from there?

I don't know what you mean. I said the song specifically because I've had the album in the back of my wardrobe for ages. Didn't click with anything but the title song. Despite being a little more towards heavy metal, Uriah Heep's Demons and Wizards deserves a mention...
