    Moar Powar!

The cords arrived today. Quail's quoted shipping times are pretty good. I just finished wrestling with both my 5.1 and 2.0 (headphone) rigs, replacing stock IEC power cords with Quails. In my headphone rig put a 2' 14AWG on my source and a 4' 14AWG on my GLite's DPS. I've had them running for...

    Delta Tango Eight Eight Zero.

Having had a little more time to reflect on the 880s, I have a few further thoughts: While in general, the high end of these cans sounds fantastic, instrument separation is not the greatest. It's a pretty jumble, but a jumble nonetheless. I haven't done any A/B work, but these cans are...

    Delta Tango Eight Eight Zero.

Sovkiller, your sig makes my eyes bleed. If in some far distant future I get a balanced amp, I will consider getting the 880s balanced. However even in their stock configuration, I appreciate how good they sound unamped. I'm going on a business trip next me, and the 880s just made the short list...

    Delta Tango Eight Eight Zero.

I recently won an auction for some b-stock DT-880s from Beyer's official eBay account. They're the older version, I'm not sure what year (they look like this.) They just arrived an hour ago, and I've barely begun the honeymoon stage, let along done any serious critical listening, but a few few...

    Moar Powar!

I just ordered a mess of hospital grade power cords from Quail. Is using a 14AWG power cord (15A rating) on a Gilmore Lite DPS excessive? I just looked and the current one I'm using is 18AWG. As an aside, when speaking to cable professionals, they pronounce "AWG" as "ogg" like vorbis.

Question for Levinson amp owners who have Headphone amps

To really answer your question, we need to know what kind of headphone you own/are considering buying. That said... It has been a really, really long time since I've heard anything designed by Mark Levinson. Off the top of my head, I'd say look at HeaRoom's Balanced Desktop. It has a nice...

Manufacture dates of Senn [and Stax] Stats

Again thanks for all this info. I am surprised by how few HE60s were made (compared to, say, K1000s) and how quickly on the heels of the HE90 they followed. I do agree they have suffered in the shadow of their much more famous sibling. Sadly, I have heard neither, but I've read up on them...

Manufacture dates of Senn [and Stax] Stats

Thanks for the info. The only part I'm unclear on is when the HE-60/HEV-70 were first brought to market. ISTR 1996 or 7, but I'd not want to swear it. Also, what were the original prices? $16,000 for the Orph system, $1500 for Baby O. How much were the 2005 HE-90s? $3000? $4000? Thanks again...

Manufacture dates of Senn [and Stax] Stats

I've searched, but not turned up much info on this. When were the three* iterations of Sennheiser electrostatic headphones made, and in what quantities? I'm recalling the original Orph system being released in the early-to-mid 90s. Anyone know what the exact years of production were, and how...

    Continuance of group-buy of TAKE T H2XLR&TR2XLR

WRT amps, what I'd like to see is a KGTT, made by Headamp. Hopefully for a cost not exceeding that of the TakeTs themselves (though that may not be be possible, I realize.) What I'm not particularly interested in is a a KGTTBH SE for $5000. Or more to the point, having that be the only option...

If I'm a Grado fan, which Sennheisers will be right for me?

The HD-590s. They are a very ...divisive headphone, but they have a very upfront in-your-face presentation reminiscent of Grados. In my experience, the 590s offer a truly epic soundstage, even when driven by my humble Yamaha receiver's headphone jack. Some of the ambient music I listen to...

what is your amp vs. source cost ratio?

Not counting my computer, which is my digital source, I paid $400 for my GLite/DPS (used) and $400 for my Adcom GCD-750 (DAC and occasional CD transport.) My headphones (HD-650s) were $340 shipped in late 2004. My power conditioner (Monster HTS-5100 Mk II) was $420 delivered. I paid $150 for my...

They look a bit like a Bill Duddleson (Legacy Audio) design, but I suspect they are not his work.

    Continuance of group-buy of TAKE T H2XLR&TR2XLR

This is definitely good news. Now if we could just get the old thread back as well. It had quite a few worthwhile posts in it, particularly those about which (headphone) amps can drive the H2 (and which cannot) and the value of the XLR inputs. Personally, I'd like to see an 4-pin XLR T2 with an...

    AKG K701 new packaging style

(how many people remember that joke?) I concur on both counts expressed by users above. #1: The old box is much classier looking, befitting of a flagship headphone. The new design looks too much like an iPod accessory, which brings me to #2: The 701 itself is still silly looking to my eyes...

The Absolute Best-Value under $20, better than KSC75!

I have had a pair of KSC55s for over a year now and they are my favorite portable cans. They sound great unamped out of a B&W iPod 3rd gen (believed to have the best built in amp of any 'Pod.) After my HD-650s, my KSC55s are my most used cans. Am unclear on what the differences between the BKH3...
