Want to upgrade my HD 558s.  Would the DT 880 pro (250 ohm) be a significant upgrade?  Are they in the same league as the HD 600/650 (which are a little too pricey right now for me)?  I'm aware of the sonic differences between the 880s and the 6xx, I just want to be sure it wouldn't be a lateral...

Meaning if I buy a separate headphone amp (say, the Schiit Magni or the O2) and pair it with the D1 (for more power), will the D1's amp be bypassed?  Will I just be stacking amps?  I just want to use the DAC of the D1 and use the other pure amp to drive the headphones.

I currently own a pair of Sennheiser HD558 powered by an Audioengine D1 amp (foobar2000 - asio - mostly flac).  It's a brilliant combination and I do love the sound, but want to take things to the next level in the next few months as I scrape together an extra $300 or $400 bucks.   My question...
