Interesting issue...I find that the ER4Ps and HF2s  with the triple flanges fit/seal exactly the same for me. Perhaps you could try switching the ER4P flanges to the HF2s and see if it makes a difference??   FWIW, I recently upgraded to the ACS custom tips on my HF2s and am a VERY happy...

I can't comment on the range of all IEMs available; however, based on glowing reports, I recently purchased the RE-0. To *my* ears, the RE-0s were VERY disappointing...the bass and mids sounded "bloated" relative to the high end and they definitely did not have the micro detail of the Etymotics...

I've got some Maggie 2.6Rs and the only thing I've found that's close to their revealing, awesome "tweeter ribbon-ness" is my Etymotic ER4Ps. Sorry to say, but unless you find them used, you will probably need to spend double your preferred budget.

Are you open to an IEM solution? When I travel for business, I use Etymotic ER4Ps, a Shellbrook Mini Moy amp and an old 80 GB iPod. It's a super compact set-up, the SQ is great (IMHO), the isolation is awesome and I have a good portion of my sonic library at hand, whereever I find myself.
