I have read of some that swear that Flac is better than Apple but I can't hear the difference on lossless. I think the difference is the bit information is more restricted in Apple lossless. Now whether you can actually hear the difference in a large FLAC file is open to debate, some saying it...

Presumably, that argument would apply to any external amp whether fed by analogue or digitally.

Thanks for the prompt reply. My limited understanding is that the software won't degrade lossless to lossless but, I would imagine it can only transcribe to the best resolution that is available within the format. I might find the answer to the point you've raised in the help files.
