    Audio-GD NFB-12

Quote:   Congratulations on the purchase!   Please report back on how it works out for you as I'm definitely all ears. I've been contemplating the NFB-12 for sometime now. I would really like something to drive my HD-650 during the summer months when it gets much too hot to run my...

A peek inside the Rotel RCD-991

The Rotel RCD-991 is an EXCELLENT redbook CD player with a TON of modification potential. I know, because I use to own an RCD-971 (not as nice as the 991, but shared a lot of the same basic design.)   Here's a picture of the one I use to own. It had an LC Audio Zapfiilter (including a new...

    Oppo BDP-93 now shipping!!

Quote: Not sure if this is accurate or not, but I saw two difference references to the price of the BDP-95 as being $979.   Based on that, given I listen to my Mac Mini/DAC combination 90% of the time as opposed to CD's, personally, I just couldn't justify the additional price...

    New Audio-gd NFB-8 (WM)

For what it's worth, I decided to place an order for NFB-8. Although, I'm not exactly sure when I'll be receiving it though since I'm not buying it direct (going through their reseller in the US), but I'll report back when I have a chance to listen to it. (I'm upgrading from the Audio-GD DAC-19DF.)

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Here's some more cable porn for your viewing pleasure...   Here's the first cable that I ever tried building for my Sennheiser HD650's. I used Canare L-4E6S Star-Quad with a Techflex Nylon Multifilament covering with a custom modified ViaBlue Splitter (SC-2 with the Ferrite Core Casing...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Quote: You might want to invest in higher wattage iron. I use to have the same problem with a consumer grade/entry level (cheap Weller) soldering station. It was horrible at keeping a constant temperature and you actually had to "wait" in between soldering connectors for it to re-heat up...

    Lifatec Silflex Glass Toslink cables

I agree with the other reviewer. It does sound great (although I haven't compared it to other cables to add a lot of credibility to that statement), but the aesthetics department is a bit lacking for the Silflex. The armor, while very functional, makes it look a somewhat cheap (although the...

    Lifatec Silflex Glass Toslink cables

I actually own a 20" Lifatec Silflex Armored Glass Toslink to Mini Cable. I use it for my MAC->Audio-GD DAC-19DF. It sounds really good with my Cary Audio SLI-80 & Sennheiser HD650's. While it's definitely a well built optical cable at a decent price, I'm also not sure that I would be able to...

    ViaBlue XLr's and y-splitters

The ViaBlue line of connectors are of nice quality. In my opinion (with a few exceptions to the rule), it really just comes down to personal preference on which connector to use rather than anything else. The ViaBlue SC-2 splitter is also of nice quality and made well. While it's light enough...

Biasing Made Easy for Cary Amps

Someone asked me about the project box I used, so I figured I'd post the entire parts list just in case anyone else was interested: 4 x NP2X-BAG, Neutrik Black 1/4" Mono Phone Connectors (also Radio Shack connectors will work just fine) 2 x 3.5" Blue-backlit LCD Panel Meter, 0-199.9mA (Ebay)...

What size mesh sleeving to cover 2 23awg wires?

I agree with the previous poster that 1/8" should be fine. When I just built my bias meter connection cables, 1/8" even worked well with two 18awg solid core wires so 23awg will be no problem. Also, based on what I read on the Techflex website, they don't make anything smaller than 1/8" diameter.

Biasing Made Easy for Cary Amps

I’ve been doing a lot of tube rolling in my Cary SLI-80 lately, and thought there must be an easier way to bias the left and right channels of this amp without having to plug/un-plug for each channel until you get it right. While it's not difficult to do, it's a bit more time than I'd prefer to...
