The line out is the same on the 601 and 601le. The 601le has the same headphone out as the 602.

Rockbox is so much more stable and usable than the original firmware. I wonder if Hifiman expect them to be Rockboxed these days as they have reduced the internal memory to 4gb and it isn't used after the Rockbox upgrade.

I use the RE-400 with the Comply comfort tips, I forget the model but the round ones, and it sounds fantastic as a light portable unit that doesn't need an amp with "enough" bass, full mids and plenty of detail without being sibilant.
