Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 (DAC/Amp) - Condensed FAQ and Info Thread
Today I replaced both stock opamps with LT1364CN8. Noticeable upgrade! Sounds much clearer and has a punchier bass that makes me love my DT770Pros again, as opposed to preferring brighter headphones with the D1. FunyunBreath, I had similar problems with 24/96 + stock opamps that now seem...- alien3456

Best IEM under a 100 dollars for Fall 2011?
NuForce's NE-700x are my favorite commuting earbuds. Not expensive enough to be depressed if they get lost/stolen, fantastic sound quality including very nice bass. And they look pretty sweet.- alien3456

Questions about replacing opamps on Essence STX
The image in the above overclock.net link shows and identifies the opamps perfectly. The only thing that wasn't obvious to me when I replaced mine was how much pressure is required to get them out. Don't try to pry them out with a screwdriver or anything; you can and should get them out with...- alien3456

Yep, it was a ground-loop. Fixed when I tried an isolator, and then a new UPS.- alien3456

Sound card with 1/4 jack output
Auzentech X-Fi Bravura fits the bill. But why limit yourself to a sound-card with a 1/4 jack? You can get an adapter for RCA or 1/8 stereo jacks and have a much larger selection.- alien3456

What to do with my old headphones?
Ebay is only as good as each individual seller. Regardless of the amount of fakes, if you take the time to detail and prove that the product you're selling is the real deal, then someone looking for it will find it, and they will buy it at the right price.- alien3456

Planning Setup
I use: TubeMagic D1 DAC/Amp Turtle Beach Ear Force DSS (PS3 -> Optical -> DSS -> RCA-In on TubeMagic D1 -> Headphones) Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro Don't feel like typing much, so I'll let you look them up! But I basically have the same needs/preferences as you, and found these to be the...- alien3456

Gaming headsets that stand out
Sennheiser PC350 (closed) or PC360 (open) are probably the best choices for $100-200. It's a shame yours was fried, but since you enjoyed them so much, why risk trying something new? Beyerdynamic also makes great headsets like the MMX300, but they're pricier, and Beyers have a much...- alien3456

Review by 'alien3456' on item 'Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1'
All the other reviews sum up my feelings about this. It's a great all-in-one component. I have my PS3, computer, stereo, and portable devices all feeding audio to the TubeMagic D1. It handles them with ease and doesn't get uncomfortably hot like other amps I've used. Only flaw I've noticed...- alien3456

Gaming Headphones?
First off, I suggest getting an Ear Force DSS (~$70). It allows you to use the digital output of your Xbox or PS3, with 5.1/7.1 surround sound that is processed into stereo sound for headphones, while keeping the surround directional effect. I have one for my PS3 connected to a headphone...- alien3456

Looking for advice: Computer audio for music composition
Maybe a DAC could be all you need. Personally, I have 2 soundcards in my system, and I seem to have less and less use for them everyday. Creative X-Fi Titanium: Has Toslink input so I can connect it to my PS3 without having to switch the audio source on my DAC... and that's all. ASUS...- alien3456

Switch between headphones and speakers
Most speakers have a headphone jack, especially cheaper ones. Plug your headphones into them and the speakers should mute, or you might have to turn them off. But if you only have one audio output to connect to, then there's not really a way to select between them in Windows.- alien3456

Beyerdynamic dt990 vs dt770
Simple: 770 if you want isolation and 990 if you don't. They are both fantastic headphones for the music you listen to.- alien3456

Warm vs. bassy vs. warm and bassy (Initial impressions of the DT770-600s and Denon D1100s)
I've been in love with my DT770s, no headphone I've ever tried comes close to the bass while maintaining the rest of the sound relatively well. But I've never tried the D1100 and you are making me consider cheat on my long term relationship with Mrs. Beyerdynamic. :(- alien3456

Rear Audio port is quieter than it should be
I used to have the same motherboard and the same low volume issues. With everything maxed to 100%, movies especially would usually be too quiet. The sound is just not amplified very well. Try updating the Realtek drivers and make sure all Windows and drivers are set to 2 channel stereo and...- alien3456

"Newcomer" needs help buying his first headphones
Two of the headphones you listed are "closed" and one is "open". Do you prefer your headphones to block outside noise and keep the music/sound to yourself, or would you prefer being able to hear the outside normally and have others able to hear what you're listening to? Closed = isolation and...- alien3456

Gaming Headset Reccomendations
I've used the Steelseries 5Hv2 in the past, but switched to stanalone mic+headphones. It looked nice, the microphone was great, and the sound quality was acceptable for games (very bright and lacking bass, both good traits for competitive games, not so nice for everything else). Seems...- alien3456

Some Headphones for music and games.
I've owned both the Sennheiser HD 202 and Sony MDR-XD200. I would recommend the HD202. Quite comfortable with a very nice sound for the price, and I remember the bass having a nice kick while staying tight and clean. The Sony cans were a bit loose on the head and leaked sound, and the sound...- alien3456

Which Techno/Trance/Electro Headphones?
The Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (250 ohm) is my current favorite pair. Electronic music sounds incredible; I can literally feel bass thumping my head, but it does not muddle the rest of the range or wash out the details. In music without much bass, it is very accurate and enjoyable to listen to...- alien3456

What is the difference between tube amps and desktop amps?
I mainly use Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro or Sony MDR-V6. I don't own any Grados, and they're much different than the headphones I use, so I can't comment on that. But my Sony's benefit greatly from the tube amp and it helps alleviate the bright/synthetic feeling while still maintaining a...- alien3456

What is the difference between tube amps and desktop amps?
There's a subtle sound difference; most people will say that a tube amplifier generally sounds "warmer" than a solid-state amp. I own a Little Dot MKIII and enjoy the sound of my music much more with it. Better or worse? Only way to find out for yourself is to try them out and see if you...- alien3456
