    ASUS Xonar Essence STX II

Quick question regarding this sound card. I have been searching around. Is there another card with similar SNR on the input? This card seems to have the best specs. I saw some RMAA loopback measurements that were fantastic. I just want to know if there are any close competitors that would have...

Headphone frequency response - amplifier behavior question

Yes, all the devices indeed have their own DAC.   Thanks for the idea, as any brainstorming is welcome with this perplexing matter.  I would maintain that the input sampling rate and output sampling rate don't matter much, although the only device in measurements that resampled the test...

Headphone frequency response - amplifier behavior question

I don't see how it is measurement artifact. 54 measurements were taken covering different headphones with the different amps. Those were taken after a large number of prior measurements were taken when I first discovered the phenomenon. I may investigate further to see if I can find any more...

Headphone frequency response - amplifier behavior question

Anybody have any insight to this? I don't understand why these headphone amps can't drive a 600ohm load without massive dips in the frequency response. They have similar dips with lower impedance headphones as well. This definitely is a bit unnerving in that I haven't seen this issue discussed...

    Listening fatigue

I mainly wanted to show that different headphones have very different frequency responses, and that the responses are far from ideal.  Sorry I didn't clarify the data a bit more.  I will refer to post #53 that you replied to, since I changed the colors from my previous post. Also, I did...

Headphone frequency response - amplifier behavior question

I wanted to gain some insight into the following phenomenon. Using REW v5.01 b24 software, calibrated EMM-6 mic, and M-Audio MobilePre MkII interface, I took measurements with the mic orthogonally placed approximately 1cm from the foam covering the driver (touching the imaginary plane...

    Listening fatigue

Thanks for the clarification, however, the impression I normally get is that "flat" is generally referred to a response curve that is measured flat.  I haven't been involved in a lot of discussion on headfi, but it seems rare in most places to find "flat" referred to as a response curve EQ'ed...

    Listening fatigue

Flat sounds pretty terrible. With flat, I always try to get more bass output by increasing the volume, which just results in overbearing treble. Read up on House Curves if you want good sound. But yeah, EQ is generally mandatory for just about any headphone or speaker system IMO. Shove that your...

Transparent Audio Power Wave 10 Conditioner?

I have been using Furman products for gear protection and noise isolation for all my equipment for years. I bought them from eBay from an authorized seller. I am happy with the Furman gear , but it is hard to provide an accessment of their performance other than to say I don't have noise...

    Budget Giant Killing Speakers!

I've read about these in the past. I have no doubt they are a good speaker. I'm curious how much cabinet resonance there is. They might improve with some cabinet damping mods.

    Android phones and USB DACs

Is this the first time you got to try Tidal with a DAC? I just discovered the service and I really want to try it.

    Android phones and USB DACs

Depends on build. Cyanogen sometimes supports USB Audio with included kernel. Sometimes you have to switch kernels. I sometimes have to try a bunch of AOSP ROMs before finding success. It is hit or miss. Nexus devices are good about USB Audio, but Samsung and others just depend. Most stock ROMs...

    Android phones and USB DACs

Don't know if you figured it out , but the music stopping is surely the usb connection being disconnected temporarily. You have to hit play in order to resume since music pauses on disconnects. Usually the cable connector gets damaged before the phone port. Cables tend to get messed up if...

    Android phones and USB DACs

I just posted the following on the Note 4 Sound Quality thread, but figured it is relevant here also: Just tested the Note 4 USB Audio in store! Compare to the other phones I have tested. VZW Note 4 tested with Charger Doctor and an HRT Musicstreamer 2. USB OTG output current: Note4 - 600mA...

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Sound Quality

I have yet to test out the Note 4 with my HRT Music Streamer 2 as well as 2+. All the Note 3, S5, and S4 smartphones I have tested output 48khz sampling rates. This is why I use the Note 2 for my audio system with HRT DAC because it outputs 44.1khz, which matches my predominantly 44.1khz music...

If you are going to use IEMs, why not try the internal Note 3 DAC/amp and see how it performs first? It might sound good enough, it is worth a shot. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk 2

If you're interested in feature requests, it would be absolutely amazing if the app could be used as a standard player so that files could be browsed with ES File or similar and opened with UAPP. Ideally, it could be used with BubbleUPnP. I have found BubbleUPnP to be the best for me for...

Bummer.  I would try a TW 4.3 ROM before giving up, though.  Also, I suggest trying every compatible kernel that you can just to make sure.
