    All things Metrum Acoustics

I've got the cable and it works, just with some 50Hz ...likely due to the proximity of power amp mains wires.... Think we'll pursue using the input transformer in my amp to go from balanced to single ended...cleaner sound with more detail and flow

Thanks, I only wonder if floating is right for my amp...My amp is input mains connected (as most IME) I do have a cheapo POC cable on the way, if that works and I like the result I'll likely build a cable using fairy dust wire and elve spun shielding ;-)

wow that has been a while (since I was here) meanwhile I upgraded the I2S card to the ultra clock, the Amethyst to an Adagio (DAC3) the Klangfilm to a freak single mesh triode tube amp and the AMD R7 via a R9 16core to a dual xeon server on a linear PSU. I might have to pop in at Metrum next...

If the Flint is anywhere near decently built it should make for a nice improvement in SQ, as with the Amethyst Flint is using 2 modules...big question is; will it work? I suggest you try to connect with the team during daytime (CET) and ask the question, emailing is still a crap shoot.

IMO the upgrade is well worth it due to the improved depth and width of stage and imaging and the even more organic sound, yet I would also want to audition the modules when owning a Pavane or Adagio...there is a return policy if I'm not wrong, you can audition and then decide what to send back...

you'd be surprised how good you can hear differences on YT , I was a sceptic for long but no longer...gives a great sense of what is going on, IRL the nuances are larger and difference clearer but still!

I'll trade your Pavane for my Amethyst with DAC 3 modules:relaxed:

absolute no brainer, best 400 you'll ever spend on a DAC upgrade! (at least that is my opinion)

are there so few people using the DAC3 modules or are they so happy they cannot stop listening to post their findings ;-) ?

    All things Metrum Acoustics

did anyone find the announced white paper on the DAC3 modules anywhere?

just keep the DAC playing 24/7 (I always have mine on with signal) I'm now three weeks in and the sound ever so slightly improves. Biggest leaps in the first three or so days.

I don't see why a Pavane would not benefit from the upgrade, it;s likely (my prediction anyway) a smaller increase in SQ than for the lesser DACs yet IMO it should bring the Pavane to the level of the Morpheus. Question is, is that true....and does it make sense from a $$ POV as the Pavane is a...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

@sander99 Is this your normal tone of conversation or am I reading too much into it? I get that part, there is one 'small' handicap; denying the existence of a phenomenon based on a failure to measure an effect does not necessarily make the phenomenon go away. You may need to adapt the...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

If you cannot measure it it does not exist and all that, believe me I have heard it before (pun intended) AND was in that dogmatic camp long ago... I sincerely hope there is a way to identify the root cause, I cannot explain it and started out being very skeptical when I started playing around...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

That comes across as a bit condescending, still, I's suggest to start with a known setup causing audible differences for that you'll need to listen first or it would be a fool's errand trying to find a root cause.

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

that is good to hear, that there is a surrogate parameter (or set) for hearing!

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

just consider; if the measurement is the constant factor that did not show a difference is it perhaps not going to show any difference in a(n unspecified) 'different environment" Would putting down that yardstick on the ground in the rain forest have shown the earth to be a globe? challenge...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

'first thing to do is more measurements in more different environments'.....eeeeeh what? Repeating something that did not work? as in 'go off and measure...and don't come back until you can prove a difference'? 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

A couple of posts earlier I indeed mentioned (or attempted that) that trying to find the root cause for the phenomenon is my goal, I am not one to care for band aids unless there is no solution in sight.

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

I work in clinical development, blind means single blind but with intact eyesight here, as in; the observers not knowing which connection was used, and me trying to fool them by making changes in a 'haphazard' way (I will not call it random) manner; as in BA AAB ABA AB BB ABAB etc. Of course I...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

@SoundAndMotion : that is pretty much the first reasonable and open minded response in this conversation! Again, I want to be clear that I am not talking about 'audiophile' switches or any magic marketing lingo. Edit: that does not mean I do not believe they can rightfully exist. Simply add a...

    All things Metrum Acoustics

great question, the promised paper on that did not yet materialize.... From what I gathered over the past months it is likely doubling the R2R ladders internally, so you probably end up with 23.7 bits in comparison to the old 23.6 or something similar (I pulled those numbers out of thin air!) So...

auch, yeah almost anything is better than a laptop, though Qobuz is great!. Even an lowly Intel NUC sounds better, especially on a LPS and with a headless OS, you can control the OS from your laptop. a used NUC should not be that expensive, a DDC will be needed but would offer you I2S between...

Do Audiophile Network Switches Make a Difference?

it's all a conspiracy making people buy stuff they don't need, with that stated there is no need to do an experiment...circular argument. there indeed is no reason in replying.
