Hey, how did you end up liking the mad dogs for your music? I've been scouring these parts for some good closed phones for prog/metal/djent/electronic listening.     P.S. I don't quite understand what's so faux pas about resurrecting an old thread if there is more good content to add to it...

Okay, first off, thanks for all the suggestions. There is a lot of good stuff in there that I will be looking further into, such as Jon Hassel, Sky Eats Airplane, and Tortoise. I have music from Opeth, OSI, and Mogwai which I enjoy. Having said that, it is still not quite what I am looking for...

@Pianist What it is the cheapest amp you would recommend using with the m50? I am not about to spend more than what I paid for the headphones on an amp (not because I don't believe it would be worth it, I just don't have that much to spend right now)

Definitely enjoying them already A lot more than my hd 280 pros. I just can't figure out how to get this little spring doohickywobbler back in the end piece. it is larger than the hole i'm sure so it is hard to pull out, but it is harder to put back in.

Thanks for all the replies! I didn't think to ask for a bag when I purchased them. What does the bag protect the headphones from besides dust? I will try to re-attach that spring today, hopefully it just slips inside the end jack.

So would adding a $375 amp to a $150 pair of headphones really improve it that much? To be honest I was hoping to hear that adding one of those altoid tin $20 amps and a lod from my ipod would be a good upgrade, because that is about all I would be willing to buy right now.
