Just got in a pair of speakers and I now need a new usb DAC. Looking for a DAC that has two sets of outputs with separate volume control for each output. one is going to my headphone amp and the other is going to my speakers. my speakers take balanced 1/4 or XLR and my headphone amp takes RCA...

can someone tell me which is ground and which is signal on the hd800 connectors?

yeah.. i wouldn't worry too muhc about not getting responses to emails. robert's just really busy i think. it took about a month and maybe 10 or so emails before i got a response back. but i think it'll be worth the wait.

yeah.. i guess though a lot depends on how much storage you actually end up needing. i don't knoiw what the SQ is like on the zen, but i guess if you enjoyerd it before then all that really matters at the point is how much storage you actually need. 

used ipod 120GB can be had for about $110-140 + $65 for a Fiio E11 or maybe even less for a CMOY and the total would anywhere form $150-200, doesn't sound too bad... although i guess it is more than the zen option.

the J3 is very nice but also defintiely out of the OP's budget. 

well if you get an LOD, you will always have a fixed volume. another option, a better one,imo, could be to get an LOD and an amp

anyone have an idea or had contact with Rob about shipping? I had a preorder that, maybe 2 weeks ago, changed status to processing. I emailed Rob a few times about when shipping might be happening now that the order is in processing but haven't heard anything back so just was about to come here...

the tubes can be swapped around. some have different sound characteristics than others. but there are also different types of tubes - power tubes and just regular (?) sound tubes (sorry not sure exactly how to refer to these). 

wouldn't the lcd-2's use up pretty much the entire budget? 

yeah in the US.. i'll have to keep an eye on micca - they dont seem to have it yet as i can't find it on their website
