In my opinion, you may want to look into a portable amp solution to pair with your iPhone 4. However, buying a full-scale desktop amp would not be worth it as the improvement in performance would not justify the cost.

I have the Schiit Asgard. You can find them in the for sale section for $200 (there is one there now). I think it performs great with the HD598's. It adds a tad bit of warmth, and a tad bit of bass.

If I ever got a pair of these headphones, I'd definitely be forced to buy one of these.  

Has anyone recabled their HD598's yet? Mind sharing your experiences.
