I'm hearing the left channel in both ears. Why?

I have picked up several sets of headphones from the local state surplus sales.  I recently got a pair of Sony MDR-7506 that a needed a new plug.  I installed one (Canare F12).  Now it is weird.  If I mute the left channel at the source I hear sound in only the right driver.  If I mute the the...

Which USB DAC? -- as good or better than Monitor02, <$250, and plays nice with LINUX(!)...and I don't care about plugging headphones into it.

I've just been reading a bit about whats out there now.  The popular contenders appear to be Audio GD NFB-12, Yulong U100, Audinst HUD, Maverick D1.  Between these I lean towards Audio-GD and Yulong.  I am really only interested in DAC performance and am wondering if there are any "just a USB...

    Good, cheap, Linux-friendly USB DACs?

Hi all,   I have switched to linux almost entirely (soooo nice to be free of MS / Apple).  I still have one computer (out of at least 15 in my home) running Windows because my DACs must have it (Musiland Monitor02, Emu0404usb).  I have some unassembled grubDAC proto parts but my vision is...

W00T has refurb Sansa Clips cheap today

just thought someone might be interested.   woot   I was wondering if this kind of post was kosher or not.  Apologies if it ain't.  I figured I'd check the forum stickies for rules about that but the stickies seem to be gone since the website makeover happened.

    Help..recapped 0404USB - now R/L volume different

Reference this thread. I recapped with silmics (the 47uf and 10uf caps), cerafines (220uf for phones out) and muse for PS cap. I now have uneven output between right and left channels on both the headphones and line-out. That is to say that one channel is always lower in volume than the...

    Optimus LV-20 (rebranded Koss)...modding?

I just picked up a pair of these at the thrift store. They appear to have portapro type drivers. They are not Ti coated, they are clear. They are bass MONSTERS...as in a punchy, over-emphasized, sloppy mess. Anyone know how to crack these so I can get in there and damp them? They could...

Help me save these DT48S. *edit: Yea!! They work.

Hi all, I have come into possession of some DT48S headphones. One of the drivers isn't production sound. I suspect that there is an open circuit between the little brass screws that hold the cable terminals in place and the leads from the voice coil. It really old and gummy in there. I've poked...

Does it matter if the dust cap is dented?

Some headphone drivers have what appear to be dust caps. e.g. DT150, HD650. So, does it matter if these get dented? It doesn't matter with a conventional loudspeaker driver, just wondering if that holds true for headphone drivers also. The other question is how in the heck do they get dented...

New movie with lots of vintage cans

I just saw "The Boat That Rocked". There are a bunch just in the trailer. I felt like a real nerd noticing them all. It is a pretty amusing movie anyway.

Help. What is causing distortion with my EF1 ??

I just received a second-hand EF1 modded with a kit from Hi-Flight. The essential aspect of this mod is really just replacing the stock opamp with a brown dog type adapter holding dual AD743. I notice a definite and audible distortion (crackily and fizzy on peaks). Each channel seems to be...

    Sextett Mods

I picked up a pair of MP Sextetts not long ago. I am liking them a lot. They are really pleasant to listen to. I also got some sr225s and between the two of them my K701 have been languishing in a drawer. The sextetts do have a couple of shortcomings -- slightly boomy bass, a little slow, and...

    The Yamaha MA10

I just got one of these old things (for not much $$ at all). It is surprisingly good for what I paid for it. I have been listening to it compared to the discreet headphone amp (i.e. the upgrade) of my Zhaolu 2.5C. I haven't compared to my mini^3 yet, which I must do. Compared to the Zhalou...

    Hybrids using 12AU7?

Hi all, I have been reading through stuff here quite a bit but I just don't have the stamina to keep at it forever. In brief, I have a fair collection of 12AU7s already. I figure I might as well get an amp that can use them. I have AKG K701 (among others). My reading here so far suggests that...

Anyone heard the Denon DJ DN-HP-1000...

or whatever the model number is. I mean these. A quick look doesn't find them on the Denon USA site. Are they a new thing? They are kinda goofy looking but wonder how they sound.

Why did you ditch your Denon AH-D2000 ?

Hi all, The Denon AH-D2000 seems to be a very talked about headphone around here. After reading these boards quite a lot I picked up a pair as my entry into the world of decent full-sized cans. There are at least a large handful of posts where folks state they have moved on from the D2000...

Tritton XB100? any relation to NE-7M?

Hi, These are really cheap and clearly have the same housing as the ne-7m. Anyone actually heard them? Newegg has the most reviews and they aren't stellar but I'm curious if anyone around here has heard them or knows about them. BTW, I just went from ne-7m to KSC-75 a few minutes ago...the...

Got D2000's. Looking for more mids/warmth..maybe..

Hi y'all, After reading lots of posts here I decided to go with D2000's as a step up into the world of good cans. It appeared that it would provide a good quality baseline for me to help me find a phone I really liked. I live out in the sticks and can't go try stuff out before I buy so...
