Possible reason why 0404 sounds "faster" than 1212m/1820m
Breaking news: http://productionforums.com/emu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1812 The DA analog fiter on 0404 hass less ultrasonic rolloff that 1212m/1820m. Interesting.- gaboo

Does 0404 DSP resample 44.1Khz->48Khz?
It seem the consensus on this board is that E-MU 0404 (unlike its more expensive brethren) uses a single clock for the 10K2 DSP. The interesting questions is: does the 10K2 DSP resample 44.1->48Khz when applying effects? Or is the DSP clock actually set 44.1Khz somehow?- gaboo

Does E-MU 0404 have ultrasonic rolloff on analog out?
1212m/1820m have this ultrasonic rolloff issue. From the 48Khz RMAA numbers, it seems that 0404 does not start to roll off as much, i.e. 0.5dB on 1212m at 20Khz. But I cannot find any 192Khz (which require the brand new drivers), or even 96Khz RMAA results. Would anyone here be so kind to...- gaboo

Bypass analog filter on 1212m DA?
First, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but 1212m has confirmed ultrasonic rolloff. Did any of the modders here manage to bypass the DA filter (i.e. get flat ultrasonic freq response)?- gaboo

Fully differential op amps
Warning, armchair engineering at its best follows: What do you guys think of fully differential op amps. A good one seems to be OPA1632. Does it make sense to use them for a balanced input & balanced output headphone amp? I'm thinking of getting Dr. Gilmore's amp (in its balanced...- gaboo

Output stage of E-MU 1212m
The board has (at least) 4 layers, so this is what could discern so far: Each jack (L and R) is driven by one 2068, but the connections are crossed, the bottom (i.e. closest to where the PCI slot) op amp feeds the L jack. The 1st op amp in 2068 (i.e. the one which ouputs on pin 1) is...- gaboo

JRC 3292B op amp
Does anyone know and where can I find a datasheet for it? I tried JRC website, no luck... It comes on the E-MU 1212m & 1820M soundcards. I was wondering what (if anything) about it contributes to those awsome RMAA numbers...- gaboo

Digital Audio Links
I've not given up on a FAQ yet, but with little time to write it, I've decided to "dump" most of the relevant links here. Paper on CD Audio. Despite the name, it covers the basic concepts of digital audio: sampling, aliasing, quantization, dither, jitter. Good intro. Julian Dunn was...- gaboo

DRC equivalent for headphones?
Has anyone tried to do the DRC (Digital Room Correction) equivalent for headphones? I suppose that for maximum accuracy you'd need a dummy head that can reproduce your ears shape accurately. Not easy to come by...- gaboo

Is the voltage gain stage (ever) redundant in a headphone amp?
Disclaimer: I seem to never suffer the 'not loud enough' problem with my sources. So... Question: If the source already has opamps on its output (not "true" line-out?) that provide sufficient voltage gain, is there any advantage to using an amp that contains a voltage gain stage? The...- gaboo

DAC on OXUF922 (firewire 800 & USB)
Interesting read: http://www.1394ta.org/Press/2003Pres...hite_paper.pdf, especially pages 4-5. OXUF922 has both 1394b and USB interface. The serial audio interface is detailed on page 55. They avoid the magic word i2s, (licensing issues?) but the interface seems identical. Also, one can...- gaboo

1212m driving dual mono cans?
According to this thread it should be possible to drive cans rewired as dual mono from the differential signal (i.e. ring and tip on the TRS outputs on the 1212m). Did anyone try this straight out of 1212m outputs unamped? Will it work for 64ohm cans (HD-280) or 40ohm (ATH-A900)?- gaboo

Rewire cans for balanced input? How?
Amps like PIMETA & PPA use 3 separate (amped) circuits, one of which is dedicated to the return current improve the ground quality etc. Balanced equipment, already has 4 amped circuits: there are two separate circuits for the return (reverse phase) current. Isn't this better in theory than...- gaboo

Updated 280's headband?
The new 280's I've got from Sennheiser service appear to have an updated headband. Clamping pressure seems considerably lower than the old pair. It's almost on par with the 555s now. Did anyone else experience this? Maybe they have a special stock of relaxed headbands for phatheads...- gaboo
