Portable headset recommendation for smartphone
I'm looking for a pocketable smartphone headphone/mic combination and don't know much about what's available. I want something that is good for voice calls, especially mic quality. Should be far above the free mass-produced type but doesn't necessarily need to be audiophile quality as I have...- CSMR

In-ear headphones similar to SoundMagic PL50 but low sensitivity
I currently have SoundMagic PL50 balanced armature in-ear monitors. I like them both for comfort and fit and for sound. I got them because I listen to classical music and read that balanced armature is recommended, and they were a good choice. The main problem is they are too sensitive...- CSMR

Can some one in UK fix my K501 cable please?
Hi. The wires in my AKG K501 cable have detached themselves from their contacts in their headphone. Is anyone able to resolder them? The cable may need to be stripped a few mm to release some more wire. Will pay a reasonable amount, would like it to be done properly. Thanks!- CSMR

Ear mould advice
I found a place that does ear moulds. Looking to get two pairs. One for use with Etymotic ER-15 Musicians' Earplugs. The other for in-ear headphones that I haven't chosen yet. Does the audiologist attach the filters/headphones or is there a standard fitting? I suppose it would be...- CSMR

USB soundcard that works with sleep/hibernate
A lot of USB soundcards including my current E-MU one have bugs related to Windows power modes (sleep, hibernate particularly). People are not only having problems with E-MU (Amazon.com: C. Could someone in UK fix my K501s?
Hope this post is OK in this forum. I disassembled one of the cups of my AKG K501 and ended up getting confused and also breaking a wire. If you can figure out the fiddly parts and resolder the wire (that bit is straightforward) could you let me know? I'll pay a reasonable price for the work...- CSMR

UK: Anyone willing to fix my K501 cable?
Hello. My K501 cables have disintegrated. Is anyone willing to mend or replace them? The fault is near where the cable enters the headphone casing, should be fairly easy to get to. Either a new cable or can use the part of the existing cable that has not disintegrated. I am in NJ. Will pay...- CSMR

Relatively transparent codec
Hi. My music on my h140 is in flac but I'm thinking of using lossy compression on some of it to fit more in. Bitrates for the flac are between 285 and 1000 kbs, with 600 being about average. Probably looking for something in the 200-300kbs range. It's classical music. I gather Ogg Vorbis...- CSMR

inp-140, a brief life
My ihp-140 has died prematurely after only a couple of weeks, just as the last music files were going on. It had uploaded about 20Gb of music by USB 2 that session and then the transfer stalled. It was a quite warm from the hard drive usage. It still said "USB connection" or whatever the...- CSMR

Any good closed classical headphones?
Hi. Sorry if this has come up before I can't find the way to search for threads with "closed" and "classical". Anything decent here? Favourite open headphones so far are the AKG K501s and I'm not expecting to like a closed headphone to sound as good to me, but it will be useful for...- CSMR

Does compression format affect gapless playback?
Many DAPs don't offer gapless playback. Is this true for all file formats or just some? (I heard something about mp3 files having to be a multiple of a certain length which I can imagine would give problems for lossless playback.) I am going to encode my lossless collection and I need to...- CSMR

Hiss reduction - the bane of digital media?
Of course hiss reduction isn't the fault of a medium, it's the fault of the engineers and producers of CDs and other digital media. These media have given these people the opportunity to apply hiss reduction when transferring from analog recordings, to achieve a clean sound. And in the process...- CSMR
