    Yamaha Silent Cinema Headphone Support

When I first got my Yamaha, I fiddled around with the different sound fields because it was new and fun.  I eventually ended up just using "Straight" as that sounded the most natural and closest to the way that the movie's soundtrack had been originally mixed.

What should I look for in cans for Movies only?

I watch more movies than I do listen to music and my preference is the Sennheiser 800s--wide sound stage, very detailed, and very comfortable.  (Unfortunately, they're over your budget.)   Over the years I've also used the Denon 5000s and 2000s quite extensively before getting the Senns. ...

    Yamaha Silent Cinema Headphone Support

My Aventage receiver has plenty of power to drive my headphones.  With my Sennheiser 800s (at 300 ohms) I have to dial down the volume substantially in relation to the other cans I've been using.   (One thing that bugs me about Yamaha's "Silent Cinema" is its name.  "Silent Cinema"?  That's...

    Yamaha Silent Cinema Headphone Support

Quote: I use Silent Cinema on my Yamaha Aventage A2000 receiver.  Although it's fun to mess around with the DSPs on the receiver for different types of movies, I usually stick with the Straight mode.   Currently I am rotating between Senn 800s, Audeze LCD2s, and Denon 5000s for movies...

    HD-800

Quote: I just received a pair of refurbished 800s from Crutchfield and my serial number is in the 16000s.   (Side note--I also own LCD-2s and Denon 5000s I was afraid that the 800s were going to be terribly bass-lite because of all the posts I've read on the subject, but these 800s...

    Question About the LCD-2's

I'm not sure what country you're in, but this is Labor Day weekend in the U.S. so some companies have already hit the vacation road as early as Friday.  Perhaps give them a call on Tuesday.

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

I used to post a little more regularly, but I had been enjoying my Denon D-2000s, Audio Tech AD-1000s and ATH-1000s for the past six years along with some IEMs and other assorted cans.   Last month, the upgrade bug hit me and when the Denon D-5000s were bottoming out (price-wise) at Amazon I...

    anyone try the AH-D1000?

Souperman, I don't know where you live in the USA, but I was at Fry's Electronics yesterday and they carry them. They were priced at $149 and they had about fifteen pairs. Their return policy is very liberal so if you live where Fry's has stores that might be an option for you to try them out.

003, I ordered on April 18th and they were on my ears on April 23rd. Looks like you hit a backorder snag.

Sennheiser HD590 or HD595 on iPod

I wouldn't classify either set of headphones as being portable. They are on the large size. If you must choose and want to go unamped, I'd go with the 595s. I think they're more efficient than the 590s and have a more forward soundstage. (I have the 580s and the 595s.) Unamped out of my Rio...

Headphone rig as one person home cinema?

^^^^^^^^^ I have the Pioneer DIR800C with a pair of A-T wireless headphones and a Denon mini-receiver with Dolby Headphones. The only difference/advantage? of the Pioneer unit is the fact that it is wireless and very portable. (And a pretty decent wireless at that.) The Denon does a good job...

    REVIEW:Pioneer SE-DIR800C Dolby Headphones w/DIR1000 Comparisons

As far as I can ascertain, the Pioneer North American version (DIR800C)(which is sold in stores in this country) is the same as the Pioneer Japanese version except for the voltage differences and the instructions which are in English. Supposedly, a voltage converter is needed if you're using the...

    REVIEW:Pioneer SE-DIR800C Dolby Headphones w/DIR1000 Comparisons

I would put the ATH-DCL3000s above the Pioneer 800Cs. To me the Audio-Technica's headphones present a wider soundstage with better bass as well as being more comfortable (and expensive.) I've read a couple of posts where people like the Pioneer 1000Cs over the 800Cs, but the majority of...

    Audiocubes Vendor?

I've had three orders shipped to me from Audio Cubes (one of which was the W1000s). They all shipped in a timely manner and arrived without any damage. (The boxes weren't heavily packaged to avoid damage, but I think the post office takes extra care in handling and delivering express mail. The...

    ATH-A1000 or ATH-W1000 ?

I own both. If you're using an iPod (which I don't own), go with the A1000s because the W1000s really need an amp to drive them well and make them sound good. (Yeah, they look nice, but...) Are you going to be walking around outside with these headphones when you're using it with your iPod...

    Pioneer 800c and wired headphones?

Since you live in Japan, you could easily pick up a pair of DCL-3000s from Audio-Tech and use them with your Pioneer base unit. You would still have wireless freedom and a better-sounding and more comfortable pair of headphones. From what I've read on this forum, the A-T models you've listed...

Why's the new Audio-Technica ATH-AD Air series listed under casual on Audiocubes?

^^^^^^ Glad you're enjoying them and you received them so quickly! For the money spent, I think they're an exceptional headphone. (I just can't figure out what the AD2000s bring to the table for twice the price of the AD1000s.) (Now about your son...I guess you could tell him to "respect...
