AV Receiver USB input = can we trick this into accepting a feed from a PC or MAC?
I have a Pioneer VSX-819H receiver. It has a USB input, and is iPod certified. I guess that is a fancy way of saying that if you connect an iPod to it via USB, you get tunes, and an on screen display to control the tunes, with your Pioneer remote. I use a Logitech remote anyway, but that is...- mcgsxr

USB DAC options under $100
I am looking for a USB DAC for use primarily with my headphone setup. I have a Millett Max Hybrid, some modded Grado SR60i's, and use Squeezecenter to stream FLAC from my dedicated music PC to my Bolder modded SB3 (in the main speaker based system), or my iTouch via iPeng (for use with my...- mcgsxr

DIY Wood for Grado/Alessandro's
I am in the process of getting down to modding a set. I own MS1i's, and have Grado sr60i's incoming. I want to go to work on the Grado's first. I would like to diy up a set of woodies - I have seen the giant threads about the results, but have not seen anything documenting how, or what...- mcgsxr

Volume knob DIY question
I have a Millett Max that I want to swap out the volume knob on. I see that most stock and eBay knobs that fit on the Alps pot are using a set screw. What if the object to be used as a volume knob does not allow for the set screw hole to be drilled? It could be a rock, or a...- mcgsxr

Amp recommendations for Alessandro MS1i
I have a set of Alessandro MS1i's on the way to me from the US (thanks again Head Fi classifieds!), and want to plan out a system. As I understand it, they are similar to the SR80 or SR125's from Grado. I expect to use either with my Bolder modded Logitech SB3 or stock iTouch via LOD as the...- mcgsxr

Case for iTouch and Fiio e5
I am building up my portable audio system, and need some advice on how to package up the iTouch and the e5. I have seen some folks attach the e5 to the back of a silicone case, or other iTouch case, but I worry about having the amp exposed like that. I have searched, but cannot find...- mcgsxr

iTouch, no amp, full size phones ~$250
I am a long time lurker, but infrequent poster here on Head-fi. I have just recently picked up my first portable music device (I am a big time audio guy, with 800GB of FLAC on my dedicated music server, that feeds my Bolder Cables modified Logitech SB3, tube amp, and open baffle speakers)...- mcgsxr

RAW HT2, HT6, and HT3 speakers at my house
RAW Speakers at my House Over the past 6+ weeks, I have had the pleasure of retaining 3 sets of speakers from RAW Acoustics, based out of BC, on the West Coast of Canada – I am just outside Toronto, so it was a real treat that Al would ship these out to me, to try on, review, and post what I...- mcgsxr

Flash MP3 for the Gym
Hello portable music fans! I am pretty new to portable music, as I have a decent home setup that I love - however, now that I am going to the gym at work, I need to listen to music other than what is being pumped through their "system". I am considering an Ipod Shuffle - I know, many here...- mcgsxr

Chasing my Tail - confused about wireless options!
I have been reading, and researching using a PC as the front end for my system, and (like many things I suppose) the more I learn, the less I am able to make a decision! I initially thought about building an Audio specific PC, but have come to suspect that I would not get the best ROI doing...- mcgsxr

bit perfect motherboard spdif
Just checking in with you guys, as there seem to be many here with experience playing around with AudioPC's. There are some MOBO's with spdif built right in - some Asus, some MSI etc. My question is, can they pass a bit perfect signal? I would love any insight, as I get closer to building...- mcgsxr

Advice on this AudioPC config?
I am in the research phase for building a PC front end - I cannot decide if I will include HT into the equation, I likely should but don't get me started on the should haves... In any case, I suspect that what I build will be a play only device - as we speak I sit in front of a 1 year old...- mcgsxr

What is the difference between a preamp and a headamp?
Other than the fact that the output is a 1/4 (or 1/8 I guess) instead of RCA's - is there a difference? Could a PPA for example, be modded to be a preamp for an amp and speakers? mark in Canada- mcgsxr

Coupling Caps
What do these do? I know that there are some in my power amp, and that better ones would improve the sound, but what is it that the coupling caps are actually doing? Thanks to any and all, Mark- mcgsxr

Which to plug into power conditioner?
OK, I know that I will receive advice to experiment, AND I will, but I want to ask now, so that when the toy arrives, I have some direction. I have ordered a Powervar 2 outlet (meaning max 2 plugs) conditioner (start small, and if I like what I get, I can buy a bigger one). I intend to use...- mcgsxr

Thanks to strohmie, and iron_dreamer
I just wanted to toss out a big thanks to both of these guys, for selling me a couple of great components. I bought a Bolder smART with some accessories from strohmie, and a Bolder PSU and digital cable from iron_dreamer. Neither transactions were from this forum, but they both were...- mcgsxr
