Norne Audio (Was: Norse Audio): Feedback & Impression Thread

Does anyone know if everything is copacetic at Norne? My cable was expected to ship a week ago, and my last 2 emails have received no response from Trevor. Guess I'm hoping he's too busy, but it is coming up on 5 weeks since I ordered. Patience is a virtue I suppose...

Definitely sounds like it's worth picking up a pair of the new pads, just to try them. Thanks

Maybe it's too early...are the new pads an upgrade from Jergpads- a side grade? An essential purchase for 500 owners who already have Jergpads? Thanks for any insights.

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

Is there really such a thing as not end game quality? For many, the Lyr is end game, and so is the HE500. If a person desires no more than Beats, then this is end game quality for them. And on and on with regards to diminishing returns and expensive headphones.

So far, considering these 4 amps for the HE500: Vioelectric V200 Audio-GD SA-31e Project Ember Burson Soloist Or just be happy with the Lyr. The Lyr is great, but I consider the HE500's to be end game quality, and am not convinced the Lyr is an end game amp. Then again, not sure if all the above...

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

Curious to know, when paired with the HE500, which amp do you prefer over the Lyr? This combo is my current rig, but am interested in potentially upgrading the Lyr. Thanks for any insights.

Happy with the Lyr for now, though wondering what's a great SS Amp (not balanced) for the HE500 for $1000 or less. Thanks for any insights.

There's the Quickie- and if storing these two amps topside- that would be SEX on Crack. Got to hand it to Bottlehead, they name their equipment, well, provactively. Please forgive, couldn't resist the temptation :p

Seems from this reasoning the Emotiva is the trap, not the HE500. Guessing the Emotiva doesn't pair well with the HE6, or any of the Audeze. Perhaps an amp that is more suitable for headphones than only the HE500 would solve this future upgrade scenario.

    Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

Back on the Amperex train with the HE500's. The Ediswan (Brimar) are great, but there's no wow factor. I've realized if tubes don't have a wow factor, then keep rolling. The Amperex are near perfect- beautiful clarity, deep and impactful bass- just wish the soundstage is a bit wider. Not ready...

Probably only stating the obvious, though ensure the cables connected to the headphone are screwed in securely. Also maybe plug in a different pair of headphones into the Lyr and see if the problem is replicated. Would be helpful to know if the HE500 works properly out of other equipment besides...

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

Maybe I misinterpreted, though it seems like the comparison of these 2 headphones was done in a store, on a very short term basis. From my understanding, this is far from optimal in terms of an accurate assessment. Perhaps the differences would be further revealed with more in-depth listening...

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

Seems like the tizzy fatiguing treble of the HE400's is not natural- perhaps even an unhealthy way of listening to music. After getting Jergpads (and before getting HE500) I spent considerable time each day listening to the 400's- in spite of the treble. After a few days, I noticed my ears...

This notion of scaling well kind of confuses me. The sound quality of the Liquid Gold is superior to the Vali- does this translate to the headphones scale well because the Liquid Gold sounds better? Anyways, this doesn't really speak to the above question.

BTW, if there are any doubters left (not likely) of just how effective Jerg's mod is, can we see another picture of the EF-6 sent by Dr. Fang?

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

If the cable connections are changed, sure would be nice if cables from the previous series can still be used. It would be disappointing to have a nice after-market cable be rendered useless should the desire to upgrade strike.

Based on the grill mod, is it safe to peel off the cloth covers- or is it safer to just leave the cloth protector alone? Don't want to damage the drivers...Edit: Please disregard- searched around and found the answers :)

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

Hope the 400i is much closer to the 500 than the 400. Trying not to overstate it, the 400 is a treble nightmare. The 500 is a masterpiece.

Yep, driving them with the Lyr. Already have Jergpads, started off listening with these. Maybe I'll try the grill mod sometime soon. Sure are a great pair of headphones.

500's came today, maybe it's too early for impressions. Coming from the 400's, there isn't even a hint of sibilance on the 500's. And the sound quality is a huge step up. More body, more presence- a very engaging presentation. On a side note, for months I've read about the weight of these...
