Need a solution for small apartment, computer-based sound system
I can buy it locally with a good return policy - I think I will just give it a shot and see how it sounds... since no one seems to have any better solution.- Sarah

No? Their website says, and I quote, "the output of the W3 works great with headphones".- Sarah

Need a solution for small apartment, computer-based sound system
70 views and no opinions! OK, then I'll give you a chance to tell me I'm wrong (we know how much audiophiles love that ;-) ). I think I'm going to go with the Audioengine W3 and A5+ pairing. Since the W3 has a mini jack input/output this means in addition to using it with the speakers, I can...- Sarah

Jazz Recommendations from this Century
I was pretty disappointed with that Zorn collaboration (I'm coming at it from Zorn fandom, not Metheny fandom). The Book of Angels is some of my favorite music by anyone anywhere, and this was one of the weakest volumes for me. Out of 20 volumes it's the only one where I didn't bother putting... -
Jazz Recommendations from this Century
I guess I shouldn't really complain about Boston - like you say, it's got a better scene than most places. It's just that the jazz we have here isn't so much to my taste and the clubs aren't either. The bigger jazz venues here are catering towards baby boomers (and older folks) who want a... -
Jazz Recommendations from this Century
Honestly, I'm not that excited about the local jazz scene... we get some good musicians/bands but a lot of the local jazz clubs are awful. I go to NYC when I can piece together enough shows to make paying for a hotel room worthwhile. I spent 13 nights there since Christmas and saw a total of... -
Jazz Recommendations from this Century
There's been an absolute embarrassment of riches in terms of live jazz lately, for me anyway.... (I have to assume any jazz you can see live is "contemporary" by definition, right?) Standouts include: John Medeski on solo piano The Bad Plus on NYE at the Village Vanguard Marc Ribot Trio... -
What Live concerts have you attended?
Since my last post in this thread on November 18 2012... and not including half a dozen jazz improv sets with too many musicians to bother listing... I have seen: A Far Cry (Haydn, Cage, Schnittke) Alloy Orchestra (From Morn to Midnight) Amanda Palmer Baby Soda Jazz Band Brian... -

Most bizarre album of you've heard? [any genre]
Quote: He has done performances and recordings using actual duck calls. They are little wooden whistle-type things that, when used correctly, make a sound like a duck. Hunters use them to lure ducks or something. You can imagine what someone who makes a saxophone sound like a goose... -
Most bizarre album of you've heard? [any genre]
Quote: I love him too. I've given up on trying to be a completist... he seems to be accelerating his output and I just can't keep up, let alone keep digging into his back catalog. I have about 80 of his albums. The funny thing about him is that you can be a huge Zorn fan and have 80 of... -

GRADO GR10: Reviews, First Impressions Thread
Different people value things differently, of course. I have a very hard time fitting the Westone IEMs into my (apparently oddly-shaped) ears and would never spend big bucks on them for that reason. If I can't fit them into my ear I don't care how great they allegedly sound. I have a hard time...- Sarah

Quote: Earphonesolutions.com always exempts certain brands (some manufacturers don't allow that kind of sale price). This doesn't exempt any, and it's a pretty huge deal if you are looking to buy one of the "do not discount, EVER" brands.- Sarah

Quote: That's a really good deal. I always wanted to try out the UM3X but I don't think I can justify the money at this point, being ever-so-happy with the GR10 I have. ($300 GR10, dang! I don't think it's ever been that cheap.) But I may have to dip my toe in the Westone pool with...- Sarah

Quote: LOL, no. If anything, they're a little warm for my taste. It's more that the earphones themselves annoy me: the short cable, the remote (which I don't need), the fit, etc. They are good SQ for the price but I place a high value on comfort, too. I have ears which are hard to fit...- Sarah

I'm sadly not as excited about the HF3s I got as some of the other posters here. I'm giving them a chance for a couple more days but I think come next week I will be putting them in the for-sale forum...- Sarah

Looking for a compact case for ES-49 earplugs...
Howdy head-fiers! I finally took the plunge and got fit for custom earplugs to wear to concerts (I go to a lot of them). I'm looking for a hard case to put them in that is protective and secure, but small enough to put in a pocket easily or - ideally - attach to a keychain so I can't forget...- Sarah

the Audiologists impressions thread (pun most definitely intended ;) )
Quote: Not sure if you are still looking... I just went to this place today in downtown Boston: http://www.tobias-battite.com I went to the Temple Place office, which is conveniently right by Park Street station. They were listed as a dealer by Westone (I'm getting earplugs). I got...- Sarah

****New Peter Gabriel Album - "New Blood" - An endorsement
The new orchestral arrangements seem to be pretty unpopular with people I've talked to - lots of haters... only talked to one other person who liked it out of all my music buddies. Me, I really loved "Scratch My Back" and thought the recording quality was excellent. I was less crazy about... -

I'm really interested in the A161, but I am not sure (by looking at them) if they are easily wearable over-the-ear... that big stalk looks like it might be a bit awkward for wearing that way.- Sarah

10 Second Survey - Music or Gear?
Quote: That's my first thought, too - concerts. I could find $1000 worth of gear to buy but I don't really need it; I would honestly have a difficult time buying $1000 of music. I tend to be quite slow in absorbing new music, everything I buy needs a few listens and maybe a couple of weeks...
