Atoms For Peace - AMOK
The album was very solid, and most of the tracks were great, but seeing them live is just infinitely better than the album. I haven't been this surprised by the difference in a long time. They are tearing it up out there!- silverharbinger

REVIEW: Ray Samuels Audio SR-71B balanced portable headphone amp
Maybe I'm mistaken on this, but I thought that the 71-B did not have a DAC. The website doesn't mention it at all.- silverharbinger

REVIEW: Ray Samuels Audio SR-71B balanced portable headphone amp
After several weeks into using the device I think it's time for a follow-up. The initial amp I received that I had detected some timing issues with became much worse the following day. It developed quite a bit of static and had volume adjustment issues. I worked with Ray on it, who was prompt...- silverharbinger

Double Helix Cables Thread
My fusions came in yesterday. They look phenomenal, but due to a miscommunication the headphone cable will have to be re-terminated to get an RSA connector put on. I could provide pics, but they would be the same as nbarnard's. When I get the 4-pin connector I'll post them up. I don't think I've... -
First pair of headphones, aviators
I'm thinking $250-300. That gets you in the range of something like the HD600's which are liked by many a head-fier.- silverharbinger

First pair of headphones, aviators
In that price range I've heard that the Koss Porta Pro and the Sennheiser PX-200 are worth the money. Then again, there are quite a few iems in the $70-100 range that are a tad colored but sound very good. Frankly, if you go past $100 you might as well look to spend another $150 to get into some...- silverharbinger

Top 5 Radiohead songs
I saw quite a bit of coverage from the London shows. They were there for two days I think. The art room and clips I saw looked pretty cool. I'm hoping they setup something similar to that at the stadium. Did Thom wear that hooded robe the whole time? (<-Hysterical, btw) Who was the opening act...- silverharbinger

Top 5 Radiohead songs
I'm listening to Down is the New Up from that album right now. When they were doing alternative rock albums I liked them alright, but when they started going more and more into electronic/ambient I got more and more into the group. Street Spirit and Just are great though, a lot of that material...- silverharbinger

Double Helix Cables Thread
Probably so. I let Pete know when I placed my order that I would be leaving on vacation soon, so the wait can vary a little bit. My order was placed on Aug 5th, and it should arrive on the 11th or 12th. I think the total time on mine was about 5 weeks. The the pics look great too. I'm very... -
Double Helix Cables Thread
I ordered in early August. I made some changes too. At first, I ordered based on hooking it up to my HP-P1. Then I added an SR-71B to the rig, so I changed my connector to balanced, and added another cable to use as a mini from the HP to the 71B. Pete was patient with me and always quick to... -

I may have some pics to share in a few days if nbarnhard doesn't get the chance. My fusion order is on it's way now. Between all the components I ordered over the last few months it will mark the end of a long journey. -
Best Mobile Setup for Under 1500.00?
I'm still figuring out what kind of portable rig config I want myself, but having the ability to play 24/96 or higher files natively may not be as big of a concern as you think. Check out this thread on the forums to get some more information on that. Personally, I've not been able to tell the...- silverharbinger

Portable DAC Recommendations
Quote: That's true. Doing blind testing at this point is out of the question for me personally, but I'll try my skeptical best. I feel very certain I could tell the difference between my rig being used and it not being used though. There are very different characteristics in the sound...- silverharbinger

Portable DAC Recommendations
Good information! :) I suspect that most of this may not be necessary, but I am doing this for a couple of reasons: 1.) To see if, after longer term testing, if this actually makes a noticeable difference in sonic quality. That will help to answer some of my questions about many of...- silverharbinger

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: Maybe it is or it isn't, but the perception is that mp3s are lossy, and wav/flac files are lossless. That ties into the placebo effect and consumer confidence. If you're going to market to audiophiles just sell the version they're looking for. We will convert it if we want to.- silverharbinger

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: Some of them do. http://www.waste.uk.com/Store/waste-radiohead-did-35-10198-tkol+rmx1+wavmp3+digital.html I can post up many other examples of this, but I also notice that the major labels aren't that interested. It probably would lead to more issues than it's worth...- silverharbinger

REVIEW: Ray Samuels Audio SR-71B balanced portable headphone amp
The 71b showed up yesterday. I barely had any time to test it out after charging was done, but wow, just WOW! I had no idea my my SE535s could push bass like that. In general everything sounds darker as I've read, but the treble and mids are strong too. It's great for pretty much...- silverharbinger

Fostex HP-P1 Headphone Amplifier
Quote: I just got a SR71-B also. The OP mentioned wanting loads of bass. I know that the 71-B enhances bass by a very noticeable amount on my SE535s (and does a great job in general IMO), but how about the ibasso pb2? I'm too new to all this to know for sure, but are there some strong...- silverharbinger

Fostex HP-P1 Headphone Amplifier
All points here have been right on the hp-p1 not being the correct option for a samsung phone. The dac isn't compatible, so there's really no point in buying it. Like expat asked, what headphones you are trying to use with your setup? That makes a big difference about what amps might help.- silverharbinger

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
I'm pretty sure it's limited to 16/48 just like the clas and other i-compatible dacs. The only way to get 24-bit is through an ipad using the camera connection kit. The hp-p1 doesn't work as an external soundcard via usb, so that's why you get those errors when you use a pc usb port. To...- silverharbinger

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: I think I read here that older firmware versions had battery life issues that were corrected in later releases. I have the latest version (1.1.2? I don't have it with me to verify) because I purchased it less than a month ago. If your version is older that could be part of the...- silverharbinger

fiio e17 speculations?
It's DVD video. I literally bought it at the release in 2007 and I haven't played it in years, so I forgot pretty much everything about it. Per the wiki article, the dvd has dolby stereo, dolby 5.1, and dts 5.1 versions on it. I would think based on that it would have defaulted to the stereo...- silverharbinger

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: After looking at the stats on the T1 I'd say there's no way the HP could do it. On my shure iems it can get much louder than I ever need them to be, but to get enough juice to properly demo that pair I'd say you need a desktop amp for it. If you don't want to do that I'm sure it...- silverharbinger
