Apogee Groove Dac / Headphone Amp
I'm using JH16pros right now. I find that the volume at 03 is about right (that's -47db in the Groove Control Panel) You'll have no trouble with adjusting the volume using the buttons on the Groove, I would stay the hell away from the volume slider in windows with CIEMs. On a side note...- macshooter

Apogee Groove Dac / Headphone Amp
Listening to this now, just got it today. Using M50x and ALAC files. It is clearly (literally) on a different level than the FiiO E10K + E12a combo I have been using. It also seems better than the converters in my Focusrite 18i20. It's really damn good. Can't wait to try my Shure SRH1540's...- macshooter

Shure SRH1540 Review
Just wanted to say, I won a pair of SRH 1540s from Sweetwater and have had them for a few weeks now. My signal is laptop> Fii0 E10K> Fii0 E12A>SRH1540. Or 18i20>SRH1540. I have quite a few headphones now... (this place...) Anyway I'm not going to get into the weeds with trying to compare the...- macshooter

Review by 'macshooter' on item 'FiiO E10K USB DAC and Headphone Amplifier'
I'm not a guy with a lot of DACs and amps that cost thousands of dollars. I bought this because the headphone jack on my wife's laptop was crapping out. I like Fiio's stuff because for the price, they sound great, and usually have a bass boost switch that puts just enough extra kick in the...- macshooter

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
I thought the same thing when I got my K702 65ths. (immediately began searching the web for pics of fakes) Small things like the silver paint on the AKG logo (in my case it says AKG not the triple cardioid pattern) and the K702 on the center of the ear cup looked sloppy like I could have...- macshooter

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
I'm don't have time to read all 134 pages of this thread to see if someone else has already tossed this out there (I would be surprised if no one had) but this article really opened my eyes a bit on this topic. Some reviews of some interesting audio equipment on that site as well.- macshooter

Yeah, but that's where you get your $150 markdown from the Austrian version. The Chinese can make crap. But they can also make some amazingly high quality stuff for cheap too. If you ever get to see a good chinese rolex knock off with a chinese mechanical movement that actually keeps good...- macshooter

AKG K702 65th + K7xx (massdrop) Keep? Or Return?
Thanks. Yeah, she's often pretty cantankerous, so this was kind of rare special moment that snapped her out of her usual grumpiness. (we all know the magic of music and how it can transport you back in time, make you feel things you haven't felt in years, even remember smells etc.) I and...- macshooter

Cleaning IEM's? (Gross Pic Included)
Kinda glad I didn't see that pic. But since this seems to be longest thread on this topic, I thought I would share my method. 1. Buy CIEMs with a clear or transparent color (mine are dark "smoked" clear) this way you can see if there is crud inside the tubes etc. 2. Preparation is key. ...- macshooter

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
Whoa, don't read too much into it. Just trying to think of the coolest serial numbers under 2000. But yeah 7.62mm and 5.56mm are two standard NATO rifle calibers that happen to make cool serial #s (I think) under 2000. (along with a long list of other calibers and model #'s...- macshooter

Hmm, yeah it'll be hard for me to look at an unopened box while I wait for a pm that may not come. But I gotta ship two pairs of phones like 2nd day (or USPS priority) plus $20 which will be probably $60 before all is said and done. That's about as much as I want to pay for a serial number. ...- macshooter

I got a $20 bill for the guy who gets serial # 001978 and wants to trade me for my pair (BOTH UNOPENED) We should be able to see the serial numbers with the shrink wrap still on. I'll pay shipping for both, so long as I feel I can trust you, and you are not on the other side of the world!- macshooter

I have now put many hours of 320kbps mixes from DubPlateFM (not a plug, just trying to be specific about the source and style of bass I'm talking about) through these K702 65th annies. I am what you might call a somewhat "reformed" basshead, which is to say that I still love bass, and...- macshooter

AKG K702 65th + K7xx (massdrop) Keep? Or Return?
Howdy from Texas. Yeah an Austrian engineer. (what's wrong with you people?) ;) When I actually started to experiment with micing these phones (using 2 C414s on omni in between the cushions), I began to realize that in any case, placement of the mic is critical and must be exactly the same...- macshooter

AKG K702 65th + K7xx (massdrop) Keep? Or Return?
Ok so I guess I didn't read everything... Jeezus Christ you guys don't mess around. It'll take me a week to read all that. I had them boxed up and ready to ship but I just couldn't do it. I'm going to run them for a while and see if one of these new fangled flat wound transducer gives...- macshooter

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
If you have both, I'm in no position to say otherwise. Yes, I also meant to say the K702 not K701... In any case, the 65th version has full bass extension all the way down to the lowest lows. A quick listen to Trentemoller/Perverse etc confirmed that. A slight nudge on the EQ...- macshooter

Yeah..... Or are both the 65th and K712pro really just K701 with flat headband and memory foam pads that account for +3 db bass and different paint jobs, but overpriced because they are (were) made in Austria? Christ, what have I got myself into... A 65th/K7xx comparo looks like.- macshooter

Can't speak for these but I can say after a few hours of the 65th annis I didn't find them harsh at all. I really don't like harsh. I went with C414XLS over XLSII mics for that reason. If they are the same transducers, should be ok.- macshooter

Just ordered some JH16's
Just to follow up on previous comments, I re-ripped some of the stuff I am very familiar with to lossless, and I am not noticing any "huge" difference between that and 320 mp3. It does seem a bit better, but any differences there are pretty subtle, and I would say not really enough to warrant...- macshooter

Just ordered some JH16's
Ok first let me say I'm not a big Beatles fan, but a while back I bought the whole new remastered catalog and ripped it to ALAC, then flipped the cd's on ebay. So I finally got around to listening to these recordings. Holy crap. These sound amazing. I am not sure if it's the remaster, or...- macshooter
