    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

I did a quick search and couldn't find an example of folks using the Vishay MKP capacitors. So if you had trouble fitting three 100uF capacitors in the stock case along w/ the choke and schottky diode, these wonderful rectangular capacitors are worth exploring. It is rated for 500v. I picked...

    Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

What's the wisdom in Head-Fi now, $400 tubes in a LYR 2 or upgrading to a MJOLNIR 2 with $50 Amperex Orange Globes? Assuming my headphones are Senn HD 800 SD and Hifiman HE-560?

    Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

I've been out of the audio game for half a decade, but my recent trip to CanJam reignited my interest. Therefore, I jumped on the LYR 2 bandwagon and began tube rolling. I went off the deep end and sprung for a pair of Telefunken ECC88 / 6DJ8.   Quick question, has anyone ever seen this tube...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

Are there any local builders in the So-Cal area? Everything worked before my Speedball upgrade. Now the music sounds distant and there's low volume hum. I totally would troubleshoot it, but it's been difficult to find the time between school and work.

    HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project

Just finishing making some cables. It was super easy. I recommend others try it too. Using Mogami shielded quad cables, solder one blue cable to the tip terminal, another blue cable to the ri terminal, and both white cables to the gr terminal. Reassemble the nuetrik 1/4 female adapter, it should...

    HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project

My mini-x came in today. Gave it a listen using my LCD 2.2. I'm glad to report there's no humming until 1 o'clock on the Emotiva whether a source is attached or not. Maybe I'm just lucky in getting a non-humming unit or my power is clean.    So far, I'm getting good results using a Grant...

    REVIEW: Grant Fidelity TubeDAC-11

I accidentally rolled in some Voskhod 6N2P tubes. Surprising a good sound. I'm not sure this tube is even supported. I'll give it a more thorough listening and report back later.

    DNA Sonett Review

Just wanted to chime in for the tube rolling. 6H30 only has few tubes- Sovtek 6H30, Electro Harmonix 6H30-PI, and Reflector 6H30-DR. Some of us, myself included, have a positive experience rolling in a 6N6P for the 6H30. It helps add to the low end. The holy grail for GZ24/5AR4 is the Mullard...

    REVIEW: Grant Fidelity TubeDAC-11

I find using the Dac out to the sonnet or lyr to have great result. Tube out to a tube amp made the music too smooth. However tube out to a pair of Adam ax7 really made them shine. The tube sound combine with the ribbon tweeters are beautiful. Just the right balance of musicality and details...

    Grant Fidelity Tube DAC-11

Just wanted to start sharing my tube rolling adventures. I will report back with a more in-depth review once all burn-ins and critical listening sessions are complete. The tubes are, going left to right, 1) '60s ecc88 Amperex A-frame w/ dippled getter made in Holland (additional photo at...

    REVIEW: Grant Fidelity TubeDAC-11

A showdown against the reigning $300-500 favorite- Schiit Bifrost is inevitable.   Quote:

    Grant Fidelity Tube DAC-11

Yes, the tube out can power a headphone w/ high impedance (300 Ohms+). An adapter is needed. I've been exploring the tube out to my HD580 with good results. I tried lower impedance headphones, K701 and D2000, but the sound is terrible. The frequency response is all wrong.    Quote:

Best Electronic type music headphones under $200 that dont need amp

If your electronic music has a lot of bass (i.e. dubstep), a used pair of Denon D2000 is the way to go. The bass goes deep, much deeper than my AKG K701 and Senn HD580.

    Grant Fidelity Tube DAC-11

I've had a GF TubeDAC 11 since Jan. The tube rolling makes this a fun DAC to cater the sound to your liking.     Interestingly, I prefer my Denon D2000 out of the headphone stage of the TubeDAC-11 to my balanced DNA Sonett.

How necessary is a headphone amp? Headphone amp vs buying new cans?

Upgrading to the D2000 will offer the better improvement.   Once you have a pair of mid-fi headphones though, I believe getting an amp will be more important than get another pair of mid-fi headphones (D2000, HD600, AKG K701, DT880, etc...).    My point of reference is owning a pair of...

Scared... just ordered Sennheiser 600s... should I have gotten 650s?

I own both. I don't think you made a mistake at all. The HD650 may have more details if you're going to sit there all day and dissect the song, but for just musical enjoyment, I usually went towards the HD600. It's like choosing between Jessica Alba or Angelina Jolie, there's a lot to like about...
