The Deals Thread (CLOSED! See the last post for the link to the new thread)

I don't find that reasonable at all. I can't imagine it would be very difficult to just use an accurate shipping calculator. Most other websites manage to do it. If it says $20 when I check out, that's what I would've paid or they would've lost my business completely.

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (1/10/2022: Koss KPH40 Utility Review Added)

I just want to throw out there that "needing an amp" isn't just about the volume level. Sometimes even though the volume is loud enough there are more dynamics to be had by upgrading to an amp with more power (and therefore more headroom) and possibly a different output impedance. Driving any...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (1/10/2022: Koss KPH40 Utility Review Added)

Quote:   I have. They were actually one of the first sets I used and I wasn't able to find a gaming headset that sounded even close to as good as those Sonys for even 2-3 times the money. I think they'd satisfy.

Headphones you regretted buying the most

That actually sounds like a fit issue more than a sound-quality issue. I've had that happen to me, too; IEMs that get rave reviews and sound like crap out of the box because they don't fit properly. I even had an issue with my UE600s when using the stock tips. They'd sound great worn down but...

    Grado Fan Club!

Your story sounds a lot like mine. :) I started with speakers in stereo, then home theater, and now I've moved on to headphones. Like you, I find myself listening to a lot more music (and I'm headed to 2 concerts this weekend as an indirect result) and falling asleep with headphones on...

    $100 budget closed-cans

I vote Sony V6/7506. I own them; they sound great, they're incredibly durable, and they're comfortable.

Headphones you regretted buying the most

I regret buying the Klipsch S4s, if I had to pick one (I feel bad for attempting to derail the thread with my jibber jabber). I remember them sounding both harsh and boomy at the same time. I also remember thinking that the treble had a metallic quality to it. They weren't terrible, don't get me...

    Lucky me!

Quote:   Yeah, I know the sound of my 7506s like the back of my hand, so to speak. Even if it does have its own flavor, as long as you know how to adjust for it, you'll be fine. Or at least consistent. :)

    Lucky me!

Quote:   If someone used Grados to mix, I would imagine that on a more neutral model the mixes would sound very dark and overly bassy. :)

Headphones you regretted buying the most

Quote:   Yeah, I've found that that is one of the things that separates good and great headphones; the ability to still sound full-bodied at low volume. It seems to be a lot harder for headphones to do than I realized before I started this quest.

Headphones you regretted buying the most

Quote:   Ya know, I'm still sort of on the fence about the UE700. I liked them for a while because of the detail, but then I made the mistake of reading a review that talked about their sibilance. Even though I hadn't noticed it before reading the article, after that it was really...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Quote:   If you mean frequency range, I vote for mid-bass to low treble. :) The treble isn't super sparkly but it is still detailed. The low/sub bass isn't mind-blowing, but it is there. The range I mentioned however is amazingly natural sounding and fun to listen to.

I hate to be that guy, but those are actually the Klipsch Reference S4. The "i" implies that they have iDevice controls.

Which albums sound best with your Grado?

I agree (I paraphrased your quote because it didn't carry over for some reason). I have headphones that are more expensive and are probably technically superior to my Grado SR80s, but for some folk/acoustic/live material there aren't any headphones that I've heard that do it any better by brand...

    Headphone Sightings 2

Quote: Gotta love the "headphones as fashion accessories" phenomenon... Half the time when you see people wearing Beats, they're not plugged in either. They're like $300 oversized necklaces. I have my fingers crossed that they'll go the way of spinning rims for your car and shoes that...

If you don't mind my asking, what about it makes it capable of driving 600 ohm headphones? I just ask because I went through the page for that receiver on Yamaha's site and didn't see any mention of headphones aside from the mention of the headphone jack on the spec sheet. Fill me in?

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but...   I think by slow he means the speed with which the driver returns to "neutral" for lack of a better term. Think about a speed metal song with really fast kick drums, for example. Each time that sound is played, the driver deviates from the...

What's with the pricing on sale/trade forums? We should monitor the prices.

I would just offer what YOU think they're worth and if they don't take the offer you just wait for another, more reasonably priced, set to come along. In my experience, most of the FS/FT prices I've run into have been very reasonable, to the point that I've sold things here for less than I...

Headphone Sightings in TV and Movies

Bumping! Melissa McCarthy wears a set of AKGs that I don't recognize in Bridesmaids. I really want to revive this thread; it's fun for me to spot headphones in the media. :)

His best bet for compatibility's sake is to rip using the Zune software or Windows Media to WMA Lossless. Or convert his FLAC files using some freeware program. My 30GB Zune was really glitchy when it came to loading files; so much so that I can't believe I ever put up with it now that I have an...

    Grado Sr-60 or koss protapros

I would like to throw the Sony MDR-V6/7506 into the discussion. Another question altogether is why not spend the money you planned to spend on 2 pairs of good headphones and buy a pair of great headphones instead?

Which amp to choose? Fiio e7 or e9 or e11 or e17? please help a newbie

Make sure you're using an LOD cable from your iDevices, regardless of which amp you choose. All you're going to get is more volume otherwise. As far as the amp, I bought both the E7 and E11 at the same time because I was in your spot a few months ago. I ended up going with the E7 because A...

    I hate you all :)

Everything that I've read about the HM5 calls them extremely neutral, so other than the fact that they're closed, I'm curious why you chose those as your next attempted upgrade. If you're looking for an open yet bassier sound in that price range, try the Sennheiser 555 (or used 558). If you want...
